I haven't been involved with music/recording for years now, but got back into it recently. I've spent a month or so reading these forums and they are great ! So thanks for all the info you have shared.

I'd like some pointers regarding this mix... I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead with spending some money on proper equipment. If this mix is half way decent, I figure it could be much better with gear that is actually, not garbage :)

So here is a list of what I use. It's not a joke. :erk:

DAW = Cubase LE
Guitar into Digitech RP-1, into 16 bit Yamaha XG 192 sound card.
Drums = Midi through Battery v1 with Toontrack DKFH (add-on).
Bass = Midi through a SamplePlayer using SonicReality bass samples.

The RP-1 is bypassed, it's just to get the guitar signal into the DAW.
I'm using Amplitube for the guitar and bass, though the rythem tracks in this mix are using GuitarRig3. No impulses or anything.

The monitoring.. lol.
Logitech computer speakers (R-20). Very little bass response.
And a Sharp stereo. Lots of bass response.

I programmed the midi years ago, note by note when I was learning to play guitar.

It sounds ok here, some compression pumping on the master, and the harmony/lead guitars are not meant as the finished tone.
So yeah, if it doesn't sound terrible, would you figure some decent equipment would make a big difference ?
I should point out I am into old metal. Like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc...
