First problem ever with a mac update.

Loren Littlejohn

Lover of all boobage.
10.4.11 is giving me a world of shit. My firepod jitters like crazy when recoding and cubase is all kinds of fucked.

My thought is it's just cubase and 10.4.11 not getting along because the firepod works for everything else, I haven't tested it in garageband yet though.

FUCK.

Oh pro tools is fine no issues :D.

well, it locks up more than ever... which is to say its done it about 3 times over the last month... *shrugs*

Whatever you do, DON'T UPGRADE TO 10.5!!!

That's no world of shit, that's cosmic quality were talking.

I learned this lesson before, never do a OS update until you know that it is compatible with your software.

I used to do the OS and PT updates as soon as they went out, but I learned quickly that it can easily become a a big nightmare, so now I always wait until I know that they are compatible.

I think Logic + proper drivers for 10.5 for any interface = fine. See what PreSonus says about their latest driver; Apple didn't make any changes to CoreAudio in 10.5 though, so any well-programmed driver from a reputable company like PreSonus should, in theory, work fine.

In general most things shouldn't need a special patch to work in 10.4.11 or 10.5 unless they are very old (such as unsupported versions of Cubase) or rely on deep system calls (most music stuff shouldn't do this - although Cubase is generally a weird program regardless of what OS you run.)

I'm still on 10.4.10 on my studio G5, as I am ultra-paranoid and don't update my system unless I am 100% positive everything will work fine. Ironically, ever since I adopted that policy a few years ago, any OS X updates that have come out would have been fine with my hardware/software setup even if I had run them the day they were released.

sweet thanks man. im still not sure if i should do the upgrade or not. you know if it aint broke dont fix it..lol

GuitarGodt... not only common sense, but tons of advice in this very forum, should tell you to check with your software vendor before upgrading your OS. good luck with your issue.. but it is not a mac issue, clearly. if it was, pro tools would be fucked too, as well as other apps. every single problem that happens on a Mac is not Apple's fault.. this is clearly a case of user error... though at least partially the fault of Steinberg. and anyway, what do you mean by "it jitters"?... Do you mean clocking issues? well maybe the upgrade caused the Steinberg preference setting for clock source to be reset... check it and make sure your word clock is resolving properly.

Gavin... you're mactarded.. the guy clearly says he has one problem.. ever... and you behave as though that makes your PC "magic"... give me a break Cap'n Hook, you know you've had buckets of PC problems... i don't wanna hear you try to say you haven't. now go swab the poop-deck or batten the hatches or something. ...... ;)

Mulder... the problems with 10.5 are only related to Upgrading, not with doing a Clean Install. 10.5 with a clean install is brilliant.

Yeah it's wierd James. My firepod only works on certain latency settings and ironically it works the worste on 2048 (or whatever the highest is). Works the best on 512.

Either way who knows, I will check the settings within OSX but I doubt thats the issue.

Oh and Gavin this is literally the only issue with the update. Mbox2 works great, UX2 works fine (although it's always been fussy). Just the firepod so it's weird.

Oh and James: How would I check the word clock settings? I wasn't aware that the firepod had any clocking except by mac-->interface via USB. Sorry I am word clock retarded.
