Ok I am about to track a friends bands (death metal) and have some questions. This is also my first time tracking drums. Its just demoing stuff)

My gear :
Presonus FP10
1 x Shure SM57
1 x JTS TX-2 (kick)
4 x TTS TX-6 (toms)
2 x JTS TX9 CONDENSER (overheads)
1 x JTS PDM57 (sm57 copy)

He has a standard 5 piece kit with db pedal. So how many mics do i need to effectively record his drums? My guess is 5 mics plus 2 OH.

Also the FP10 has 2 inputs on the back, can they be used to connect extra mic pres?

you can use the extra firewire port on the fp10 and daisy chain with other fp10s i believe. i dont know if that works with any firewire pre or not though.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the SPDIF I/O on the back.
FP10 has 8 mono analog in, and stereo digital ins
There are a few mic pres out there that are dual channel with spdif out. Aphex 207D is the only one I can think of at the moment.
