Yes the RB500 and the Apex 210 are the same mic. I didn't change the transformers but I removed the internal wind screens.

If you wanna buy pre-modded mic there's a belgian ebay seller who does that with Lundahl transformers:

Did removing the wind screens improve it greatly? I could do the transformer mod myself if I felt the need :)

It was a nice yet subtle improvement but also a risky manipulation because screwdrivers and magnets tend to really like each other.

I've gotten some nicer mics since I commented in this thread a few years ago. Next on my list mic wise is another md421, beta 56/57, another pair of nice SDC's and a higher end LDC. Haven't given it too much thought, I may try get a set of AKG c414's or something if I get busy.

I've got a few friends who've let me try out some of their mics quite a bit so I always have some fun options when I'm doing a project.

12 of these.

1 x Behringer C-1
1 x T.Bone MB75
1 x T.bone MB45
2 x Behringer C2
2 x Behringer ECM8000

And some miscellanous mics..
Next month I'm getting an SM57.
After that I plan on getting a Audio Technica AT2020, for vocals, unless the SM57 does the trick..

My current list:
- AT 2035
- AT 3035 (x2)
- AT 3031 (x2)
- Audix D6
- Audix i5
- Cascade FatHead (x2 - Matched pair)
- Neumann TLM 103
- Peluso CEMC6 (x2 - Matched pair)
- Royer R-121
- Sennheiser MD421-U4
- Sennheiser 609 Black face (x2)
- Shure SM57
- Shure SM7
- Shure Unidyne III 545

I'm pretty happy with this setup, it covers all my needs so far. There are more important things on my list right now than more mics but I do want an RE20, R101, an old MD409 and perhaps a 906. I'd like another condenser just for different tonal options too. Heard some good things about the BOCK 195, but I've also been curious about the Telefunken CU29 since a tube mic is the only kind of mic I don't have. These seem to be getting pretty good reviews so far.
