I am proud to announce that the headliner for this year’s Flight of the Valkyries female metal festival is

UNEXPECT hails from Montreal, Canada and has developed quite a following despite almost a complete lack of formal distribution or promotion. Their sound is virtually impossible to describe as it borrows from many genres including black metal, death metal, progressive metal, melodic heavy metal, European Classical music, opera, medieval music, gypsy music, electro, ambient, noise, circus music, and jazz. Their live show is high energy and electrifying, adding a visual component that matches their astounding audio assault.

UNEXPECT has been a 3rd tier support act for various bands touring the US including Epica and most recently Norway’s Trail of Tears. This will be a very rare opportunity to experience a full headline set from this absolutely indescribable metal act.

UNEXPECT is fronted by the strikingly gorgeous and fiercely talented Leïlindel. Off-stage she is a gracious performer and a true class act. On-stage, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Flight of the Valkyries 2008 will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Station 4 nightclub in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota.

Tickets will go on sale at 10:00am on Saturday, February 16 on IndieTickets.com.

June 28th, eh? Man, 2008 is going to be a busy year for me and Elisabeth.

We love female-fronted bands. This may be worth a road trip. A very, very long road trip. Or maybe the ferry across Lake Michigan. Then a long road trip.

Damn. Why can't more festivals be held in or near Michigan? :)

Thanks for letting us know, SwordLord!

Well to begin, Unexpect regularly tour the US so I am not that interested in them plus I didnt care for them that much.

Secondly, DUDE you scheduled it the same day as BARfest thats gonna hurt attendance possibly a great deal.

EDIT: This could possibly hurt attendance, I hope for the best from both lineups.

Totally different geographic area. He's surely looking for most the same people that attend his shows in the local area.

And yeah UneXpect does tour regularly, as he said. As support. This is a chance for a full set. Awesome band. Cant' wait to see them live some time. Hopefully when they tour with Nile.

Well I dont think it matters that much as far as geographic area as long as its in the US. I will be seeing Unexpect on feb 12 with Echoes of Eternity so I will let everyone know what I think.

I think they will be okay, we deal in different genre's per se  I wish Nathan the best because he has a great direction and an original idea and that is hard to accomplish these days...

Doubt that very seriously. UnExpect has appeared three times in NYC alone, lol. If Dave stays true to the BARFest mantra and concentrates on the Pacific Rim, and maybe even Latin America, FOTV will have no affect at all. Furthermore, FOTV is going for the Sonic Cathedral crowd more than anything. BARFest is trying to build, or should be trying to build, its own base.

Actually no, we're not.

Although we certainly want the local Minnesota Metal scene to feel welcome and attend Flight of the Valkyries, Swordlord and I have been trying very hard to build a festival that people will want to travel for.

Nick and I are coming all the way from Maryland. Last year we had people who came from Georgia, Pennsylvania, NJ, and California and a lot of the other Mid-west states (and there may have been folks there from others that I did not meet).

Although the fest is definitely still in it's growing stages, we are not trying to limit ourselves to drawing a crowd from only one geographic region. Like any festival, it's going to take some time to build it to where we want it to be ideally, but Flight of the Valkyries is the only festival of it's kind in the US showcasing only female fronted metal bands and we are very proud of that. :Shedevil:

I understand the date overlaps for festivals may also be a factor for you, but don't be discouraged, as this is only one band announced and you may find that another band on the bill or, hopefully, the overall line-up will make it worth your while. :)

I think your fest's uniqueness will help you build a strong following over the years. I congratulate you on creating something that's truly one-of-a-kind in the music world.

Depending on who else you book for this year's Valkyries gig, we may make the journey.

Bill

P.S. Love your signature. :)

I appreciate all the initial opinions expressed here.

I realize that UNEXPECT tours quite regularly but they are always support. They are an amazing band and I can't wait to see what a full set looks like. These guys are really going someplace and as far as I know, this will be their first headlining show *ever* in the US. So at least I'm the first at something.

Thanks for the well-wishes and I'd sure love to see some of you at this show!

Nathan

Nathan, congrats on uneXpect. They're very talented and one of my favorite bands of late. Too bad I'll be in Europe during the festival, or I would have considered attending :(

I took at look at Bar Fest's lineup last year and no offense to the promotor of that festival but all those bands wish they could be as refreshing and talented as Unexpect. Band is indeed going places.

Apples and Oranges my brotha....wait till you see what we have in store this year :cool:

Also just to say one thing. Out of every festival I have ever been to Crimson Glory put on on of the best shows out of any band I have ever seen , period. I am sure many would agree with me. Its just to bad they choose to be stale instead of continuing.

Thanks dear! Europe??? I am envious ... are you going to attend some amazing festival out there? If you say you're going to Magic Circle, I'll just cry because I so want to go to that this year and I don't think I can afford it.
