Froggy France!
Hi

I need 8 more mic pres and I'm looking for this one that seems to be great. I'd like to know what you think of it. Good/bad one and why. Does the compressor do the job well? "Better" gear for the same price??

I have a limited budget and this one costs approx. 550€, that's my max....

Thanks for your inputs!

I used to have the prior version. I bought it along with my saffire 56, preamps are ok but I found the compressors useless at studio&live situation, you know, there´s no attack/release....there´s no choice to tweak the way it works. To me it is not worth the money...but the one WITHOUT dynamics does, go and get it! Oh, you might know, both one have a built in limiter prior to conversion, so if you´re running it in a live situation at least it should be a relief to know it wont distort/clip

you have a detailed description of how compressor works on those units on focusrite site and in manual as well.
it's up to you to decide if you find those figures are any useful.
they might work on some things but not on other.
and you can always turn it off.

Exact and I read it. But the idea was about somebody's experience.

I put a couple of these in a friends studio so he could record band practice and demos and stuff and they actually sound pretty good for the $.... compressors are nothing great but if used sparingly they sound good. the main reason he went with the dynamic version is that it has word clock in and out where as the other one only has word clock in. but that all depends on your needs.

here's a vid from Focusrite in case you haven't seen it
