Anyone like Folk Metal here? I've listened to some. Some of it I don't like, some of it I can stand, and some is just great!

What in your opinions are must haves? If it helps I don't like Korpiklanni too much, and while I have on occasion hummed Happy little Boozer, it's more of a can't get that damn song out of my head then a I like it so much occurance.

Some of the viking stuff is cool, like "The Sword of my Father".

I personally love Ensiferum, alot. I don't tend to like alot of folk metal, but you should check out Folkearth as well, they have some good stuff.

The Irish have numerous awesome folk bands such as Waylander, Primordial, Cruachan, to name the big three. I am also enamoured with Geasa and Belinus.

As already pointed out, folk metal is so varied that you are bound to find something you like.

Out of Germany try Subway To Sally, Odroerir, and Menhir. Vintersorg's now defunct folk project Otyg is definitely worth a listen.

I suppose this is a start. There are oodles more. Hands down, the most acclaimed new folk band in the last couple of years is Asmegin, but I have not yet obtained their debut.

Thanks, I'll have to check those out. I've already heard of some like Elvenking.

Subway to Sally, I thought I saw them on a Goth CD, I'll have to check em out once more.

I haven't heard too many folk metal bands, mostly Finntroll and Skyclad, but I'll keep an eye on this thread for ideas. It's cool music. I was always a Jethro Tull and Steeleye Span fan, so I kind of get off on the mix of new and old sounds.

Orphaned Land-"Mabool": Middle East Folk.

Haven't heard much buzz about Orphaned Land since PPVI. I really enjoyed their set at PP and their acoustic set at the Preparty. :Smokedev:
