SDC on hat=clean and crisp (possibly too sharp) SM7 on hat=chunky and mellow (possibly too dull) Having said that, I've been usuing sm7 on hat for 3-4 years now and havn't turned back. Oh and I've never used it any other way then flat. Try it on kick drums too....it can work.
