I have no reason to try others. Those 3 rate so highly (by me) that I get other beers merely for novel sampling. And yeah there are some good ones, but not like my babies <3

I'll be honest, Belgium has better beers to offer, when I'm in Belgium I almost never drink Hoegaarden, but since Hoegaarden can be found *anywhere* it is by far, my beer of choice. (and Stella, and Duvel)
You can find Leffe now in the states but they only carry the blonde.... I wish they would carry all the of the leffe family... I miss my tripple and brun...

Italy definitely put all of their efforts into the wine, because the beer here is shite compared to Belgium and Rhineland. However, I drank a beer in Poland a few years ago that blew my mind...hand-made by monks in the north of Poland, not available outside of Poland, and tasted so good that I wanted to smuggle it out of the country in my boots and then pour it all down my throat, straight outta my boot, LOL!!! Can't remember the name, all I know is that I loved it and I will go back to Poznan just for finding that beer again.
But back to Hoegaarden...that stuff is so light that I drink it like orange juice. I absolutely love it. I've never been fond of beers, even microbrews in the states until I came to Europe. It's another world for me.

When it comes to beers there are 2 groups:
The sipping beers, and the pounding beers. (as I liek to call them)
the sipping beers are the ones you will nurse on for a long time.. like Duvel, and tripples, and Guinness (extra stout) and all the heavy cloudy beers (that I *love*)
but the pounding beers are the ones you'll open one after another and chug easily a 6 pack in no time.
That's why I love Stella and Hoegaarden so much: I can have one after the other, easily!

Though not exactly culturally appropos, I'm enjoying bouncing between my cognac and Stella this evening.
I think I love the Italian wine a little too much, and it's very strong in this region. It's not grape juice in Friuli. We have some of the strongest in Italy, but everything here is really heavy; the food, such as the San Daniele prosciutto...world's finest. Grappa, salame, THE TOCAI WINE, etc. Tocai is exceptionally sweet and usually had as a dessert wine. It's so sweet that you can forgo the desert and just drink the wine. Two glasses and you're gone...even the dessert wines knock you on your ass here. It's really a problem sometimes because the people here have tolerances in the sky and I'm quite a lightweight.
And as you know, here it's considered a serious offense to refuse a drink from someone. People literally get pissed off about that stuff, so wherever you go, you gotta drink.

My new roommate's family is from Siciliy. Refusing either food or drink from them is effectively risking a beating at best.
This is true, especially in the south. But then again, it's a WHOOOOOOOLE different world down there. You really aren't exaggerating too much.

To be fair they just take it as personal insult and guilt and lecture a body. They're really sweet for the most part, but yeah, fascinating group.

I have the disgrace of the fact that if I say no, I get pissed when someone insists. Christ, living in Italy would be constant fist fights for me.

I remember my first visit to Italy, on my own (without family) was back in 2001. I went to visit my Italian friends (Necrodeth) at Genoa City.
I spent a wonderful week there, and those guys showed me REAL Italian life style.
Nibble all day, bite size sandwitches, and at night.... my lord.
The meal is HUGE.
after I had pasta and antipasti and was full - they informed me the main course is coming out. dare you to refuse... no way.
same with drinks.... I was eating like a PIG and I was drinking like an Irish groom on his wedding day... you can't say no... how true!

Necrodeath are really nice guys...really laid back and real people. Great musicians, too. It's too bad they didn't get bigger than they have.
You should check out Novembre if you haven't already. I recommend Dreams D'Azur and Novembrine Waltz. Just go to my myspace page and click on them in my friend's list. Really laid back guys and really talented. When Annalisa spent a summer working in Rome, she used to hang out with Carmello all the time at Jungle and at The Cube. His brother, Giuseppe, is probably my favorite drummer and has a style that's completely amazing. Their best work is Wish I Could Dream it Again...melodic black metal. That album is so rare that Carmello doesn't even have it...BUT WE DO!!!!! Carmello has the greatest voice on earth for screaming. Peter Tatgren times two, coupled with cleans similar to Mike Ackerfeldt.
