For those wanting HEAVY Mark Tones!

I think the Mark IV is more 'at home' with a tone like that on Clip 2. I would aim to have the Mark IV sounding a little more clinical and tight, which is what it does best, and then make up the quack and squish with the 2nd amp. We were onto the right thing on the demo with the Bugera/Mark IV combo. We should try some Peavey amps alongside the Mark IV to inject the 'melodeath' that's lost from its surgical tone. My best estimate is that a squishy Peavey or Bogner amp alongside the Mark IV would work great.

The worst thing we can do is attempt to make the Mark IV sound like a 5150 IMO, because that just won't ever end well.

One thing clip 1 is better at though is the lack of fizz. Clip 2 has an annoying fizzle spike that makes the tone more fatiguing to listen to.

Yeah I totally get that ermz. But as I mentioned, that would imply quad tracking, and I know my limits and the expectations of our music. I don't think the "wall of sound" sort of thing would work well with 16th notes at 210 bpm etc. I just don't want to sit there through all that for a method I personally have lost interest in and won't particularly serve well to what we play. I get your point though for sure. I also understand not trying to make it sound like a 5150 too. We never wanted that typical sound either. And given the elemets we get to work with in our music, I think we can make it unique tbh. Just have to ensure every element is strong. If we expected anything to be sub par we wouldn't be going to the crazy effort lol

There tone is uber thin and grainy though. I wouldn't use their tone as a reason to want to go down that path :p

A touch grainy I can get behind, but thin is about the last word I would use to describe Nile's guitar tone....

I'm glad you posted these tones though. I have a Mark V that I've yet to use on a really heavy tone. Your results are promising...

Ok so thin was a tad harsh lol. It's just not an applicable comparison... Their tone works for their style, but it really wouldn't have any spot for us that's all :p I'll put rhenupdated version either way: but on what I've managed, I'm sure with ermins guidance we will get the right tone :)

yum! Dig the first clip a lot! As a fellow Mark IV owner, I love hearing Mark clips. I want to get a V, but..ehh, sorta want a Recto cab and road cases first.

Been rocking the 5150 at practice, which needs new tubes badly but Im about to bust the Mesa back out because we got shows coming up. Dual Recto and Mark IV make a good combo!

by the way, what were your settings?

I'm always interested in tweaking this thing a bit more. Found magic and super tightness without the fizz by turning my Lead Gain down to about 5-6, and pumping the Drive up to about 9. Amazing amp!
