Remember that taunt from AiC on Metallica?

Would any of you recognize Jerry here?

Haha yeah I remember that taunt. Still, he looks like he plays rock n roll, whereas Metallica were "looking all GQ", as Jerry himself stated.

He needed a haircut. He's had long hair for, what, 25 years? Imagine how nappy that shit was.

I've always just thought people should go with what looks good. I cut my hair, because I looked awful. Jerry looks-... weeeiiird... o_O

Tell that to Mr.'s Dane and Loomis. :)

I'm sure they'd probably agree with me. Warrel cut a big chunk of it off during his solo album, if I'm not mistaken.

Think about Jerry, though. All the years of heroin and crank and smoke and cigarettes and awful conditions over the past 30 years I'm sure does a number on your hair. Plus, he was starting to go a little bald, and when it's time, it's time. Also, AIC isn't a thrash metal band, so the long hair isn't really necessary anyway.

I dig the new look. Metallica did it as a gimmick; I assume Jerry did it because he was probably tired of having nappy hair and after a certain age it starts to look stupid.

I'd say Jerry looks pretty good for 48, though. And he wasn't anywhere near as abusive to himself as Layne.

Warrel had some really long hair. I saw Sanctuary when they opened for Megadeth, and Warlock. His hair was past his waist.

I had long hair up until it started to receed, so I thought it best to not have a skullet.

I see you are in NC....did you see the Megadeth/Warlock/Sanctuary show in Fayetteville by any chance? I was at the show. First time I ever heard or saw Sanctuary. Went out and bought Refuge Denied the next day. Been hooked every since. I think it was around 1988 or so?

no, I saw the show in Charlotte, NC. And, like you, never heard Sanctuary before, and was at the record store the next day to get Refuge Denied. They were awesome that night.

I've been playing guitar for 30 years and they are still arguing over how to play Purple Haze... *sigh*

I used to subscribe to Guitar World but I just couldn't stand it anymore. EVERY SINGLE ISSUE is either Zakk Wylde, Jimi Hendrix, or EVH. Sure, they'll put a popular band on the cover or some other gimmick, but every other issue had some Hendrix/Wylde/EVH bullshit on the cover and tons of interviews that no one gives a shit about. Occasionally they'll throw us a bone and put Death or Nile or some other extreme metal band, but guitar mags are just sad these days.

Jeff Loomis feels your pain. :) Did he ever get a cover in 18 years with Nevermore?

But yes, they are ridiculously conservative about the cover. It's rare to see a young guitarist on the cover any more. Or even someone not as well-known, like Jeff. Tosin Abasi was on GW a while back but he was with Steve Vai. Guess they didn't think Tosin could handle the cover alone.

Although in fairness, GP DID put Orianthi on the cover this month, but with her looks that's a given. At least she can back it up.

The problem is Guitar World; they're just one big gimmick. Their offshoot Guitar One was a great magazine with a perfect balance of news, interviews, and technique lessons. Then they shitcanned it so they could sell issues of GW based around chicks in metal and porn stars holding guitars. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat.

They're just shooting themselves in the foot. Pretty soon the kids are gonna get tired of the gimmick as well and realize that they can get the same lessons on a tab site online or just watch Youtube, and then GW is gonna cry "the internet is why we went under", just like everyone else.
