Yup - Last year was my first sober year there. Guess what?? I actually saw EVERY band there, including Showcase!!

Hey Bear, good to hear that you're one of the mature ones who knows that getting hammered ain't for you. I don't enjoy drinking til I'm sick. I prefer to just enjoy a good buzz, and that's enough. But I have a father who can't leave the bottle alone, so I know how it can affect your life.

And those of you that know me well, know that I don't need to be drunk to still be immature (giggle). You love this story Bear. There's a kid I know from campus that used to be part of our office "discipline" cases. He's a huge metal head, and he no longer drinks. The last show I saw him at he said to me "You know, I can't believe how many shows I threw money away at because I was always blasted. I never knew how truly deep you can feel the music sober."

Thanks but it goes a little deeper than that but I appreciate the support. As for anyone giving me shit for quitting, LOL thats on them and their insecurities not mine, I could care less what anyone thinks of it. My life is way better and I am a happier healthier person today because of it and it will only get better.

Yep this year will be my 3rd ProgPower, and I stick with bottled water. I work too hard during the rest of the year to waste any of my vacation feeling like crap!
(My addiction issue was actually food...to quote Iron Maiden, everybodys got their vice. Thats a *whole* other thread, though )

Be strong, brother. I've been down that path with stronger substances. It's not an easy thing to do, but you can do it. Don't be afraid to extract yourself from a situation if that's what it takes to stay on the narrow road.
I'm not coming this year, have to choose between PPUSA and a huge developer conference in DC, my career won this year, but shoot me an email if ya need to vent.
Thanks again for the words of encouragement. I am all good, I have no desire to drink anymore, my consequences out weigh the want to go back to an old lifestyle that hasn't been good for many years. Life is better today, new apartment, new friends, better health, more money and when I go to concerts I actually remember them there is alot more but its a start this week I will have 9 months
