I thought the messageboard needed liviening up a bit with a bit more discussion on our beloved Saxon, so i thought id start a bit of a series, going through all the albums with posters on here naming there favourite song (one only, i know its unfair but lets keep it simple) and why on each album.
Ill start the ball rolling on the first album, Saxon(1979)
(btw please just post about the first one, ill create another topic for the other albums as time goes on)
Many years ago now my cousin gave me his heavy metal record collection for my 10th birthday (what a guy!!), in it amongst Deep purple, Motorhead, Priest etc, were all the Saxon albums to that point, the first one really stuck in my mind, it was the striking album artwork, this made me want to play it first, so, on my dads old radiogram/sideboard (anyone old enough to remember them?) I stuck it on, and im not ashamed to admit it now but I hated it and turned it off after side one. Some time later my older cousin who gave me the records came round and wanted to know what I thought of them, and to my eternal shame I replied 'Crap', to this he said that I'd obviously not listened enough so proceeded to give me a crtash course in Heavy Metal, im so glad he did because he stuck that first album on again, but this time on side 2, so i sat there bored and irratible, moaning at him to turn it off when i heard a military drum roll, some fine guitar work, my curiosity was piqued. The song went on until the closing guitar solos (which have got to rate as some of the best stuff Quinny (and it was Quinny, Oly has since said) has ever done, if not any guitarist has ever done for melody) and from that I got him to play side one again, I now was enjoying it, before too long we had gone through successive albums and were working through Motorheads earlier work, but thats a different story!
My pick of the bunch is the one that got me into HM, the awe inspiring, jaw dropping

So come on guys, lets hear YOUR storys regarding Saxons first outing, I know theres some of you on here older than I and can remember it on first release, some of you might only just have aquired it, but come on, lets hear your thoughts!
