How so? I play a 6 string fretless bass, and I find myself using all the strings but the highest (tuned to AEADGC) pretty frequently. I could definitely do without the extra high string, and I wouldn't mind going even a string LOWER. If guitars keep getting lower and lower, what do you expect us (bassists) to do?

its not only about fallowing the down tuned, guitars there people out there that enjoy the wide range that such instruments have to offer, they find MANY creative ways use to it.
"5 is already one string too many" is very narrow minded claim. let me guess, you find 6 guitar strings also to much to handle....
