Just because they are getting older doesnt mean they arent excellent cricketers.

But shouldn't the team be selected on current form, rather than that of months/years previous?

I've got no doubt in my mind that both of the Waugh brothers will get back to their best before retirment, but I see no reason why they can't be replaced that form returns. They are currently playing on past glories alone. (Unless of course Steve just scored a match winning century in the past 24 hours that I havn't heard about)

Look at Ian Healy and Adam Gilchrist. Healy really struggled during the last couple of years of his career - especially with the bat. With Gilly, not only do we have possibly the best keeper in the game, but also the best batter (statistically speaking).
On form alone, he should have taken over the mantle of keeper at least two years earlier than he did; or at the very least have been considered for his batting talent.

But the selectors play favourites.

Yep, that's about all I know about current cricket - that Mark Waugh had trouble catching the ball.

Well he isn't exactly in the side to catch the ball, but it would help his cause.
He's there to score runs - and that he is yet to do consistantly on the past 2 tours.

For my two cents worth :

1. I'd love to see them carry Mark Waugh a little longer, but if they don't they should pick NSW's Michael Clarke as his replacement. The best 20 year old batsman in the country, and we need that now. Look at Hazan Raza for the Paki's...
2. Andy Bichel has proved more effective that Brett Lee, looks more like getting wickets than Brett Lee, and deserves a chance at a permanent spot in the side. If Gillespie is fit for Brisbane, then Brett should miss out.
3. Bring on the Poms. It will be slaughter. SLAUGHTER I tell's ya!!!!

Agree 100% with you there, Bichel is a better bowler, Brett Lee can bowl fast but he is shit and inconsistent. Got to feel sorry for Gillespie, poor dude is always getting injured. He is an excellent bowler too
