So, all the guitarists out there prolly know the importance of developing string string skipping skills in order to improve alternate picking and shred shops. However, few seem to practice exercises specifically targeting this skill.

I've found that performing classical guitar pieces is one way to practice this in a fun and musically pleasing way. Recently, I recorded a version of Carcassi's Etude #7.

Immediately after practicing I found that my alternate picking had improved. The reason that this was effective is that it forces you to keep the pick parallel with the strings which reduces the resistence created upon plucking, creating a more consisitent and even tone, as well as increasing efficiency and speed.

Just thought I'd through the suggestion out there. There are lots of great Bach pieces on Ultimate Guitar (guitar pro files) that would work great for this.
