Do you think Nick was better than Lombardo? Serious question. I'm not sure I can judge them properly. It would be easier if Megadeth were writing music as intense as Slayer while Nick was in the band.
Nick's experience and skillset was a lot wider than Dave's from what I heard. Maybe at the time his drumming wasn't as intense as Dave's but until Dave moved into bands like Philm I don't think he showed a great deal of variety in what he did. He was good, there is no doubt about that but Nick was able to play everything from jazz to metal and he'd been doing it for years before taking on Megadeth.
