I HATE YOU I HATE YOU

I HATE YOU SO MUCH

WHY CAN I JUST RE-STRING YOU AND YOU STAY FLAT AND IN TUNE...

FUUUUUUCK
:waah:

That was my life for a while too.
Floyd Rose tremolos got their pros and cons. When it is perfectly set-up, I never had any problem whatsoever with a Floyd-Rose, but as soon as you try to detune it, change string gauge, fuck with it, etc. it's set-up just dies and it goes waaaay out of tune.
Changing strings is also a pain in the ass.
I love the floyd rose on my Jackson RR, but I've got a TOM bridge with Sprezel locking tuners on my EC-II, and I love both bridges.
One bridge can't do it all yet and none is perfect, but I've always wondered why they didn't make Floyd Rose trems that doesn't require the string ball to be cut off, hence solve 50% of the Floyd Rose's problems.

Literally just changed to the same gauge...

it was level and in tune before

and now its a piece of raised crap

I don't understand the floating bridge hate that pops up so often. It does what it's supposed to do; complaining about it seems as silly as complaining about not being able to dive bomb with a Tuneomatic.

Still, the totally out of whack set-up you're describing sounds odd. It really shouldn't happen if you put the exact same strings on it. If it's raised up, I'm guessing it's tuned quite sharp. The string tension needs to equal the spring tension, if it's overiding the springs and pulling the bridge up, you need to detune the strings until it sits back down. Then it will probably be closer to tune.

When you change strings, change one at a time, and tune each one close to pitch as you go, you'll end up chasing down the balance point a lot faster.

Who needs that shit anyway. Both of my band's guitarists want trems just so they can do a dive in like one part of one song.

It's really not so fucking cool.

+10000000000. If your name is Dimebag Darrell or Gary Holt then by all means go for the Floyd but guitarists that insist on using a floyd but don't do shit with it piss me off. This could possibly turn into a guitar hate thread because I think theres just as much shit on guitarists as there is on drummers, well almost.

fuck this,

I beat the flyod rose... I win... Its in tune the little fucker and HE WILL ENJOY IT.

I'm sorry, but what the hell does an intonation tool have to do with the string and spring tension needing to be balanced on a Floyd so that it can sit properly?

I suggest getting a tremolo-no. Then you can lock it down in place when you want to. It makes changing strings much less time consuming.

Right, but this doesn't change the fact that if string tension changes, then as soon as you unlock the tremol-no, you're back to square 1 with the same issue the OP had before.

FWIW, the biggest issue anyone should take up with a floating trem is how rubbery and dead they make strings feel, as that's the only thing that shouldn't come with the territory IMO.
