Valley of the Kings is one of the two Gamma Ray songs I've actually heard. It's okay, but I could never really get into that style.

Understandable, it's REALLY HAPPY Power/Speed. 
But the things that separate it from run of the mill flower metal crap are the heavier riffs and the awesome leads - Kai Hansen writes leads that fit so well in the context of the songs and don't sound like random wanking. Plus, instead of being a really good singer who sounds like a pussy, Kai Hansen is a rather rough and shitty singer who sounds completely insane. One of my favourite formulas, really.

define flower metal, i really dont wanna be sucked into a whole big nancy fest. I like happy powermetal, but i do draw the line. The only bands that are lighter than gamma ray that i listen to are probably dragonforce and elvenking.
