Gayhem is fucking boring.

eventually you'll get it, Disturbed fan

edit: honestly, I don't like them either. But there are some awesome black metal bands out there. Don't judge the whole genre from only one example. Well, that's not what you did, but just in case

wait wait, tell me which band you listen to and I'll tell you if you actually listen to black metal or not.

I can understand. I never really liked black metal until last year. It needs time to get into it. You can try bands like Summoning, Falkenbach, Woods of Ypres (awesome band), Morrigan. They are a lot more interesting than Mayhem/Burzum IMO.

I listen to Summoning but I don't consider them black metal. I thought Falkenbach was viking? If you want to get into bands that are KIND OF black metal, I like Borknagar, Enslaved, Forest Stream, Agalloch, Wintersun, and on and on. It's just pure black metal that is lacking from my collection.

I've been trying to like Naglfar for a very long time but it just doesn't work out for me. Nevertheless, "I Am Vengeance" is the finest black metal song I have ever heard.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Transilvanian Hunger are genre defining classics.

If you don't like them, you don't like black metal. Now don't get me wrong, DMDS isn't my favorite black metal album either, but it is certainly a defintion of the genre.

More of my completely meaningless elitist statements for consideration:
-Emperor stopped being black metal on IX, debatable at Anthems, but I'll reserve the latter argument for supreme elitists.
-Burzum isn't black metal, but that's only on a technicality. So therefore I will state that if you like "black metal" and you don't like Burzum you are obviously a homosexual.
-Immortal are holocaust metal.

Oh, and if you mean Mayhem's Deathcrush, yeah, that does suck. That one is free for any kind of bashing, but DMDS is untouchable.

also, all works like Grand Declaration of War and Chimera are also open for bashing, since they suck too.

I wouldn't really call Woods of Ypres black metal, solely because David Gold doesn't speak of Satan

Summoning <3
My opinion is that metal genres are defined by how the music is played, not the lyrics with the songs, but I know elitists will disagree with that

Sorry but Burzum is the only "black metal" band I really can't get into. I need good guitars, something Burzum doesn't have.
