just to say .doug mainly uses an ernie ball steve lukather signature guitar. with an engl. sometimes thru a laney v100. together with laney cabs. the blue one on chronicles is a one off american job which cost him scary money. as for comments on him only just fitting in with the band are far from the truth. this man has made them rock again and deserves much recognition. he is a guitar god
Indeed he is!! To be fair though, it was only one person who said they'd only just accepted Doug as part of the band (even though he's been with them for about 10 years!!) - and Paxoman put him straight on the fact that Doug fits in with Saxon perfectly, and has made them a better band
It's no crime to prefer the previous guitarist I don't have anything against Doug. But it was just a bit of a shock for me that Graham was not playing in Saxon anymore. Well, shock and shock.. I started to listen to them when Doug was already playing in Saxon. Well honestly, if Paul Quinn now left and would be replaced by another guitarist, would you all think: "Oh, great. This new guy is amazing!" or "Huh? Wtf? Why did Paul leave the band? Nooo... come back Paul..!!" But now I'm used to the idea that Graham doesn't play in the band anymore
But there's nothing wrong with his guitar playing, really. Doug is a good guitarist and no worse than Graham. He is not too bad for Saxon, nope.
No offense btw, but there was a thread about this already... why didn't you post it there? But really, no offense. Hope you could tell us what kind of effects and other pedals and stuff Saxon used or use.

I'm afraid it is indeed a crime to prefer the previous guitarist! Let us know which gig you are going to and we'll arrange to have you flogged on the stage!
you got me curious redman, how did you feel about that time a few years ago when some fella called Timmy set up that Judas Priest tribute band with the Halfordless ex members of Priest ???

Not that I hated this Ripper-guy, it's just that there's nobody who can replace Halford! If this cover band had only played their own material, from Jugulator and Demolition albums, they would have been okay (even though I don't like Ripper's voice), but they were playing old Halford-era songs and that was a crime
