Gibson Guitars (Explorer & Les Paul Studio)

Also, it comes down to preference. Didn't mean to come off as a "know-it-all" in my post, I just bond with Gibsons better and think the quality is superb 90% of the time.

Last time I went on studio we tested a Gibson Les Paul Custom with original pickups and a cheap LTD F-50 with EMG 81. The LTD won hands down on the high gain sounds, so we used the LTD for rhythm and the Gibson on leads. The chain was: guitar -> Ibanez TS7 -> Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.
The Gibson weren´t bad at all, but in the end the EMG 81 made the diference.

Well, that comes down to pickups vs. guitar in this case, which isn't really a fair test IMO. EMGs in general are better for the \m/. A Lester with EMGs would slay as well. :)

I agree. But at least here, where Gibson are way overpriced (a new Les Paul Custom usually starts around US$5.000), people tend to keep the original pickups. I guess they think something like "I´ve paid too much for the 'Gibson tone' so I´m not putting a generic EMG on this thing". You know. People.

Yeah, I see what you are saying man...that is understandable.

Resurrection!

Thought I would add to this thread in saying that instead of getting another amp I'm shooting for the faded Explorer :) Pics and all that good stuff when it arrives.

please do, I'm between the faded explorer and a schecter c-7 (truth is they are so different guitars I'll probably buy both, it's just a question to which comes first haha!)

Well, how weird is that!!?!? I have a HellRaiser C7 coming on Tuesday, haha.

Quickly, the C7 will be around for a very long time. The Faded Explorer, however, is borderline being liquidated. I decided to get one because I have played one numerous times and never grow tired of it, and it's a crazy low price.

The faded Gibsons are AMAZING guitars for the money. A friend of mine has an SG Special faded and I like it more than his LTD EC-400AT. It kinda needs better pickups, tho. The Gibson pickups sound great clean, but I personally find they're a bit lacking for high-gain.
