GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1992

They were a gateway band for me, including the Amon demos compilation, so I've had an off and on again relationship with Deicide. But since joining UM I sort of fell back in line with their early stuff.

Which is exactly why most "true" metalheads underrate them. Because they're a gateway band that people with only a passing interest in metal latch on to. Most of their albums are also garbage which causes some to miss out on classics like Legion.

There is also the issue of them being over the top satanic and Benton being a douch which causes some to avoid them. Same happens with a band like Gorgoroth as well.

no way dude, most people shit on their discog outside of their first few albums ... especially everything after SotL. Personally, i think The Stench of Redemption is their best.

Again, that's not been my experience. People seem to much prefer their more brutal, overproduced material. For so long it seemed like Serpents of the Light was the favourite.

The Altar part of that Altar/Cartilage split seems quite underrated. I was just relistening to it to decide if it made my list or not and while the Altar side isn't as weird, or as good, it's still some great death metal.

Yeah it's still great. It's just that the Cartilage side is so fucking good that I had to put it separate from the split on my list.

Also, nice list dude. Totally forgot Therion on my list. Jeez we need a top 20 for this year..

i'm away the next couple days so sometime after that. we don't have as many votes as last time though i don't think, i'll probably tag the people who voted last time but haven't here.

You're right, just did a quick count and we have 20 in here and 26 in the other. Thought we had more here because the thread was longer, but I forgot it got derailed for a few pages.

Deicide - Legion
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Ministry - Psalm 69
Blind Guardian - Somewhere Far Beyond
My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers
Tiamat - Clouds
Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus
Root - The Temple in the Underworld
Burzum - Burzum
Emperor - Wrath of the Tyrant

Honorable mention to: Cemetary - An Evil Shade of Grey, Therion - Beyond Sanctorum, Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism. Overall, it's not as strong a year for me as, say, 1994, since I'm much more a black metal than death metal kind of guy. However, there are some picks on this thread that I'd like to check out, especially Beyond the Crimson Horizon, which I would already be familiar with if it were on Spotify.
