GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1992

I was just laughing at your "anitchrist has more blasting than all Pestilence albums combined" statement ... and the fact that you still don't consider Pestilence to be a proper death metal band.

Nice argument bro. Pestilence is full of thrash riffs. If they're death metal, so is Exodus.

Hell Awaits is about as death metal as the first four Pestilence albums, and probably more death metal than the first three Atheist albums on average.

If they're death metal, so is Exodus.

It's mostly just palm-muted chugging and triplets. If The Secrecies of Horror is death metal, then a song like Open Season containing the exact same kind of riffs three years earlier is death metal too.

I never said blasting = death metal, I just said it's one thing Sepultura's Antichrist and a lot of death metal have in common. Pestilence has almost nothing in common with most death metal. If they did, you would be able to name what that was.

I would love for someone to point out for me the most death metal song on Consuming Impulse. Testimony I don't care about; there are a few Death/Obituary-style songs that are pure death metal, but there are also songs with virtually zero death metal, so it tends to cancel out. I think it goes without saying that neither Malleus nor Spheres contain more than token levels of death metal.

 that's basically what your implying. "Look they have blast beats in a few of their songs so they're more death metal than death metal legends Pestilence...". What do hear when you listen to Consuming Impulse? Thrash? So is Leprosy a thrash metal album too because it has its fair share of thrash riffs? But then again im not surprised, considering all the shit you used to claim was and wasn't thrash a few years back.

There's a shit load of thrash, black, grind etc that use blast beats, and there are a shit load of death metal bands that dont use them much. You seem to have a very simplistic view and a clear misunderstanding of the subgenres.

I consider Leprosy to be far more death metal than anything Pestilence has done. It's really just a few songs like Forgotten Past that keep it thrashy. The album is maybe 75/25 death/thrash.

The rest of your post shows your illiteracy in understanding arguments, I never said blast beats were defining of death metal. They are a common element, however. Sepultura's Antichrist deserves a death/thrash label, particularly for its time.

I can accept the Pestilence is actually thrash argument, even though Consuming Impulse is a landmark death metal album, but pure death metal not really starting until 1990? Mate, Bolt Thrower.

So Consuming Impulse is a death metal landmark, none of their following 5 records are thrash albums ... but somehow they are a thrash band in your book because they released one death/thrash album?

re Slayed, I make a habit of not listening to Bolt Thrower much for whatever reason. That song does sound pretty death metal, fair enough.

re Barbie, it was just one example after you failed to provide an argument in support of your claim. You seem really hung up on that.
