GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1992

... says the guy who thinks 80's thrash is death metal

raw

To be fair, Antichrist is pretty damn death metal-y. It's more death metal than anything Pestilence has ever done, at least (though Pestilence is basically 90% thrash metal in my book).

@HBB First off, that's a ridiculous statement(in more ways than one) that's in line with most of your posts. And secondly, i think we have went over this already ... blast beats are not exclusive to death metal. You do know that, right?

Everybody is wrong and this mong is always right I suppose.

But you're the one who said Sepultura are a "FIRST WAVE OF DEATH METAL" band. fuckin' nitwit. At least dont be a bitch and admit when you're wrong instead of trying to take the argument to other places.

They are a first wave death metal band, first wave death metal often being death/thrash.

What elements of death metal do you believe Pestilence possessed that Sepultura's Antichrist lacks?

Sepultura is a death metal band
Pestilence is a thrash metal band
Motley Crue are traditional heavy metal

i wonder what else you clowns are going to come up with.

Slayer is death metal? Bolt Thrower are doom? Bon Jovi and Kiss are metal?

Hell Awaits is about as death metal as the first four Pestilence albums, and probably more death metal than the first three Atheist albums on average.

Early Sepultura is about as death metal as Possessed were. I've never denied that first wave death metal is just death/thrash.

Actually, War is a very thrashy song, probably one of the thrashiest on the album.

Nah, that would be "Troops of Doom" or something. Chugfest.

ITT I learned "first-wave death metal" is a term people use.

Surprised you didn't already know this.

Seven Churches took the trem-picking a bit further than Sepultura ever did, but yeah, it's still a thrash album too. imo pure death metal didn't really start until 1990 with Atrocity and then the NYDM bands shortly later. The deathliest songs on Altars were there, but too much speed/thrash stuff diluting it, similar to how Kill Em All isn't really a totally proper thrash album.
