GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1992

:kickass: i wasnt going to include EP's, but i think ima gonna have to to edit this one in there.

edit: @no country for old wainds hey man im going to edit out the Sodom and Bolt Thrower albums. The #9 spot will go to Tools of the Trade and the last spot will go to either Malevolent Creation or Monstrosity ... gonna give both of those a spin tonight.

yeah man Carcass ruled back then...this EP and Symphonies/Necroticism slaughtered

1) Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
2) Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
3) Sodom - Tapping the Vein
4) Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine
5) Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated
6) Sadus - A Vision of Misery
7) Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
8) Deicide - Legion
9) Vader - Ultimate Incantation
10) Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

Ok for some reason it thought it was The Ten Commandments that came out in '92. I dont care much for Retribution. Tried listening to it again today. Generic, pedestrian, mid-paced death metal to the max. No way in hell is does it get a pass over Monstrosity. Imperial Doom wipes the floor with that album.

1. Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
2. Danzig - Danzig III: How the Gods Kill
3. Stratovarius - Twilight Time
4. The Nod - Thirsty Work
5. Vader - The Ultimate Incantation
6. W.A.S.P. - The Crimson Idol
7. Tankard - Stone Cold Sober
8. Girlschool - Girlschool
9. Armoured Angel - Stigmartyr
10. Flotsam and Jetsam - Cuatro

The Stratovarius album is a reissue of 'II', the first version of which may have come out very late '91 (So far Encyclopaedia Metallum has ignored '91 though so ).

Dope lists so far. Real talk though, y'all need some Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes in your lives. What the fuck guys.

Like most early black metal, I'd describe them as a mix of black, death and thrash metal but mainly black/death. I'd start with their debut All the Witches Dance or Tolling 13 Knell.

Slumber of Sullen Eyes would've likely won this without much competition a decade ago.

it came fourth in the all time death metal poll only a year ago.

edit: it has made quite a few lists already tbh. these lists are more diverse than in the other thread so it'll take less mentions to get in the top 10 i reckon.

I dont really get a lot of death in their sound.

I hear that extra heavy greek style black metal mixed with thrash and/or traditional heavy metal depending on album.

(and maybe a pinch of italian occult doom vibes)
