GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1992

If you need to bring up when someone got into metal, you've already lost. Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions are definitely examples of proto-death metal or first wave death metal, whatever you like to call it.

They exist in the period when the lines were much more blurred.

no they are not. It's thrash at its rawest, most brutal and most aggressive. And thrash practically gave birth to death metal in the 80's ... so just because you hear some parts that where eventually embedded in death metal does not mean those albums are "1st wave death metal" or whatever bullshit you wanna call it. For example ... are Motorhead and Venom thrash metal bands? Of course not.

And im bringing up when you got into metal because no one from my time would ever refer to them as a death metal band. But i've been seeing/hearing a bunch of casuals refer to them as death metal in recent years and it just makes me cringe. Its like the boundaries of what is metal have been pushed out a lot in recent years.

Son, i think you seem to have misunderstood me.

That same Wikipedia article, go up to the first sentence where it says they are a THRASH METAL BAND. That is what i am saying. THAT THEY ARE A THRASH METAL BAND. YOU TRIED TO IMPLY THAT THEY WERE A DEATH METAL BAND. I voted for death metal as secondary for a few of their albums too(along with a bunch of other 80's thrash albums, does that make them DM too?), but that still does not change the FACT that they are thrash metal albums. Are Motorhead and Venom thrash? Is early Death(as thrashy as it is) thrash?

Anyone that thinks Sepultura were a death metal bad needs to turn their card in ASAP.

oh and death/thrash still falls mainly under the thrash umbrella, but im sure i didnt need to tell you that.

From the start I've said that they're an early brand of death metal, I never said they were strictly death metal or anything like that. So eat a dick and go cry elsewhere faggot.

i don't really get why it has to be one or the other - if they're secondarily death metal then they are to some extent a death metal band. i'd agree thrash was the primary though, which is true of lots of so-called '80s DM realistically.

no that means to some extent they were a death/thrash band ... which is still pretty much thrash metal. And dude, those 2 records predate any "official" death metal albums.

And that secondary can only be tacked on to three of their records. Two of those being THRASH METAL CLASSICS .. not death metal classics peeps, THRASH METAL CLASSICS

You admitted that Sepultura are a death/thrash band and that death/thrash is just a style of thrash metal. I never said Sepultura weren't a death/thrash band, I merely said that they were pro-death metal, which means you're just being a semanticunt, as we all know that proto-death metal = death/thrash.

no they are not a death/thrash band. They are a thrash metal band that predate death metal. Next thing you know one of you clowns is going to claim they were a black metal band too. They are a thrash metal band. A very brutal and aggressive one at that. So are most of the super aggressive thrash bands from early on death metal bands too?(Sadus, Dark Angel, Demolition Hammer, etc)? Anyway, why are you having so much trouble with this? All you have to do is look at the first post on this page, and your response to it. I said they are not a death metal band.. fact. You said they are ... incorrect. That is all. You're trying to weasel out of it by saying "i wasnt saying strictly death metal, i meant thrash/death.. which i know is thrash"

"First wave of death metal"
