GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1990

Second tier thrash metal band better than one of Danzig’s first three albums? Fuck no.

Literally Danzig's least impressive band, you call the Sadus album second tier, what the fuck is Danzig then? 3rd tier hard rock that barely just passes as metal. Swallowed in Black by contrast is an intense as fuck technically savage death/thrash album that totally crushes.

Lucifuge is probably the weakest of three for me but I'd call the S/T at least roughly equal with Swallowed in Black.

You gave Swallowed in Black the same rating as you gave several Korn albums.

Danzig had their own niche with their gothy groovy thing. Hardly third-tier hard rock, which would be something like Jackyl or Every Mother's Nightmare.

You gave Swallowed in Black the same rating as you gave several Korn albums.

So? The S/T is the only consistently good/great Korn album. Not sure where you got the idea that I was some kind of Korn megafan.

EDIT: One album is apparently "several" in aboland

Oh sorry you're right, you rated one Korn album the same as Swallowed in Black and another higher than Swallowed in Black.

You also gave that Korn album a higher rating than the first 3 Danzig albums...

I did indeed. Korn's S/T is a better album than probably anything Sadus and Danzig have done. Heavier, more original, more musically interesting, etc.

If you prefer punk with questionable production over quality hard rock/heavy metal, yeah.

Anybody who even brings up production in reference to punk is probably a retard, no offense.

So you'd disagree that Misfits & Samhain's production is hugely relevant to their aesthetic? I have no trouble being a big fan of old British punk from the late 70s and 80s. I'm not complaining about the production of punk as a whole for fuck's sake.

8) Cause of Death by Obituary
Dissection of the light, the rotting of the soul...

Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death had a very chunky, gore-soaked aura to everything.

It's interesting as both albums are Scott Burns produced and only a year apart but they sound so different. Cause of Death has much better separation between the instruments and a bigger, heavier sound to me.

I consider myself a music listener more than anything and do not care what is classic or what you're suppose to like in terms of genres,etc.. I personally just find Deicide and Obituary musically really stupid. I could be wrong,etc.. but to my ears both bands are really awful.

Or you could stop being an utter fag and start liking Obituary.

I have no idea why you would call their production questionable then, if you're not just talking about the anti-production values of punk aesthetic in general.

They just seem a bit more lo-fi to fit in with the B grade horror themes. To my ears, it's a bit shit. Even bands like Chaotic Dischord don't sound as if they recorded in a padded cave.

*6) Left Hand Path by Entombed
Terrors beyond the human mind...

"Left Hand Path is easily one of the best death metal albums ever." @mutantllama

"Left Hand Path over Like An Ever Flowing Stream anyday. Clandestine was tighter, has better song structures and probably flows better but it lacks that youthful aggression, riffs and TONE that made LHP so great ...
LAEFS is fucking epic, but it doesn't touch upon the majesty of LHP for me."
@Sirjack

"Left Hand Path is the best Entombed." @EspaDa

"My only problem with Left Hand Path is I prefer most of the songs when they did them earlier as Nihilist. It's still great, though, and the title track is a definite contender for best Swedeath song of all time." @Slayed Necros

"Left Hand Path master race" @The Ozzman
