GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1993

^ Geez those Christians go hard, don't they? Must be all the sobriety & "high on life" shit. Wonder if there's any quality Muslim metal bands out there.

There’s a few anti Muslim bands from Muslim countries but given that in those places the penalty would be death, probably not.

That's pretty bad-ass when you think about it. Even at the risk of capital punishment they're still producing their music.

I used to know a guy in Iran (I think) who played in a few metal bands, one time I Skyped with him and his hair was shaved, apparently the authorities do that to you if you're caught engaging in such things. Another time while I was Skyping with him I could hear explosives going off in the background and he had to jump offline.

Fucking crazy. But yeah I'd listen to a Muslim-themed band, The Gates of Slumber wrote that awesome song about a Muslim army going into battle or whatever and it ruled.

My partner is from Iran, they actually have a pretty big metal and punk scene but it gives new meaning to the phrase 'underground'. Anyone good enough to make a career of it has to emigrate and plenty have, including the pop stars.

I know people find metalcore gay still but August Burns Red is another Christian metal band I like. Mark Shelton wished he could write riffs like that band does.

Actually one of the things that bothers me personally about Islam (beyond any of the more insane things) is that they get all autistic and buttrammed over depictions of Muhammad, which makes it almost impossible to make any kind of cool films about the man. He was a fucking warlord and a revolutionary figure, it's a travesty that he doesn't have his own kind of Ben-Hur/El Cid/Spartacus/Jason and the Argonauts/Lawrence of Arabia/The Fall of the Roman Empire-esque epic historical drama film to his name.

There's a few very cool Islamic films though like Khartoum or The Message (1976) but Muhammad's face and voice are not depicted so in that sense it feels redundant.
