RYM film chart

Deadline is OCTOBER 18th. If you need an extension just say so and it will absolutely be considered. This is usually just a soft deadline to make sure everybody doesn't become complacent.

REMEMBER for those of you who haven't seen many films from this year or in general, you can always submit lists as small as only having 5 submissions.

Rules:

- Please submit at least 5 films.
- First place in your rankings gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9, etcetc, 10th gets 1.
- Feel free to post more than 10, but only the top 10 will get points.
- Feel free to post less than 10, the same scoring will apply.
- Feel free not to rank your picks, in which case all ten picks will get 5.5 points.
- If you're so much of a dick that you have to post more than 10 unranked picks, the maths will be worked out.

Okay, I went through the first 700 movies on that list to make my list. I'm only counting movies that were shown in theaters since the list included movies that I saw premiere on TV networks.

What I discovered is that it was kind of a shitty year overall for me despite seeing some movies that I really liked.

My list is as follows:

1. Gran Torino
2. Taken
3. Quantum of Solace
4. The Express
5. Last Chance Harvey
6. Defiance
7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
8. Kung Fu Panda
9. The Secret Life of Bees
10. The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

1. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
2. The House Bunny
3. Beer for My Horses
4. Gran Torino
5. Hancock
6. Marley & Me
7. Bill Bailey: Tinselworm
8. The Rocker
9. Nim's Island
10. Tropic Thunder

fuck yeah. hyped for this one.

This is such a no country year! One lesser known film that might interest you is Lake Mungo. It's an australian ghost-story-as-mockumentary film about a family going through home videos and other documents to try and make sense of the death of their daughter. Very somber and sad as shit, might be your kinda thing.

This was a really good movie that I forgot all about. Might have to go on the list.

Lake Mungo is a good film, nothing really like it that I’m aware of. Sad film. Strange film.
why the fuck does she see herself dead? It wasn’t her imagination because it was on film. Wtf causes that? Never answered, never explained. I think I liked that they didn’t answer this better)[spoiler/]

I rarely watch a movie more than once at the cinema (maybe once or twice per decade), but in 2008, it happened twice. I thought about putting both at no. 1, but then decided in favour of "Wall-E".

1. Wall-E
2. Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis
3. Rumba
4. Μικρό Έγκλημα (Mikro Eglima)
5. Aanrijding in Moscou
6. Sunshine Cleaning
7. Eldorado
8. Finnischer Tango
9. Marcello Marcello
10. Happy-Go-Lucky

At the risk of ruining it for you...

It was her doppelgänger which in mythology is usually an omen of bad luck.

4) Tropic Thunder
5) Harold Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay
6) Get Smart
