The only people that would be bagging out australias playing in those games obviously has no fucking clue what they are talking about anyway and has probably never seen a football game in their life.
The thing that pissed me off about the penalty was the fact that the guy changed direction, fell over Neill, and still got the pen. Every follower of the sport knows that the Italians fall over in the box at every opportunity. Why wasn't the ref alert to the practice??
We should have scored when we had the chance. If Mark Viduka hadn't choked in goal every time he got an opportunity the result may have been different. And don't start on the "stop picking on Viduka" argument. He under-performed at this tournament. That's plain and simple.
Even if the ref wasn't aware to the practice of taking dives, i don't know how he could have awarded it given he was about 5m from it... He had a clear view of the incident, and it seemed so clear cut that he just fell over!
Fair enough but I mean viduka is getting on in years AND he was pretty much marked heaps in all games as he was considered the big dangerman, so give the guy a break. Back in his hay day he was a scoring machine. You get old and past your prime though shit happens.
The team had plenty of opps, but I think they have been built up to believe in an attack involving Kewell, and went he wasn't there to pass the ball to, they had no idea who to pass it to
Having Kewell and Emerton would have been very nice. Emerton was our best player v Brazil (next to Neill), and Kewell's always handy to have around. Without them we lacked potency.
I really don't think Guus' system suited Viduka. He was always up there by himself, receiving it with his back to goal. He didn't get to run onto the ball like he does for Middlesboro.
