Good Doom Metal?

My Dying Bride,Skepticism,Early Anathema (Like the recent albums but do not consider them Doom),Early 3rd and the Mortal (Similar reasons to Anathema),Until Death Over Takes Me and Shape of Dispair.Probably best to have a look through the www.doom-metal.com site for info.

check out orange goblin (my fave), acid bath, kyuss, candlemass, the melvins, and early queens of the stone age.

doom metal is just heavy stoner rock i geuss, just tripped out, paranoid, crazy music, like primus to a lesser degree and with a much more metallic sound i geuss

My Dying Bride
Anathema (old Anathema is doomier)
Cathedral
Novembers Doom
Paradise Lost (old stuff)
St Vitus

These 6 are/were well established, great doom bands.

My Dying Bride
Cathedral
Candlemass
Anathema
November's Doom
Forest of Shadows
Green Carnation
Opeth

oh and doom isn't just heavier stoner rock...its metal...and none of it is even close to being something like stoner rock...

and black sabbath was the first doom metal band (blues metal = doom metal)... :)

I think most Doom fans would consider all that Stoner Metal/Rock (except Candlemass) and not really venture to say it's just doom by proxy. I happen to like all those bands personally, but there's some people who get really crazy about the difference between stoner and traditional doom. Traditional Doom is pretty much heavy stoner rock, but there are a lot of the more "evolved" genres that people consider modern Doom that are completely different (My Dying Bride is a good example)

This thread just came up last month...but I'll add my two cents again...I can't believe no one mentioned:

Morgion (buy "Among Majestic Ruin", just do it)

and

Funeral

as for more traditional, Sabbath-esque stuff:

Saint Vitus ("Mournfull Cries" is a good one)

The Obsessed

Pentagram ("Sub Basement" is good)

newer trad stuff like:

Abdullah

Cruevo (a mix of doom/stoner styles with harsh vocals)

High On Fire (both albums are good, but I'd get "Art Of Self Defense" first)

and of course...

SLEEP (anything...but I wouldn't recommend "Jerusalem" as a first buy, it's nearly an hour of heavy Stoner/Doom and a bit of an aquired taste)

I'm leaving A LOT out...but it'd just be extraneous...go to www.doom-metal.com like Kinslayer said.

depends on what type of doom you like.
You got traditional doom like candlemass, solitude aeturnus,
trouble, st vitus, with clean vocals.
then you got death doom, like anathema, my dying bride,
novembers doom etc. It got death vocals.
atlast you got funeral doom, an ultraslow type of music
I dont really like it. bands that are funeral doom include
skeptisism, shape of despair.

Acid Bath, Agalloch, and Novembre, November's Doom as well as early Anthema, early My Dying Bride, and early Paradise Lost. Although Acid Bath and Novembre could easily be considered something else.
