Ooook...Is it too late to apologize for my trolliness? All I meant by the 'distasteful' is that a lot of people I know find GoreGrind just that, obviously more specifically the lyrics.

Hey peeps...y'know, I dunno if it's just me, but how do you guys define the line between brutal, grinding death metal and grindcore, or for purposes of this thread, goregrind?? I mean, how DO you seperate them? Is it purely lyrical? Because as far as I can hear, there's almost no difference between what some people call goregrind and what others call brutal death. How heavy and brutal does death have to be before it becomes just plain grind?

Exhumed, Disgorge, Devourment, Impaled......you call these bands goregrind and yet they very definately use insane death metal riffery here and there and some pretty technical rhythms.....sometimes. =) Is grind not plain blasting?
and KillWithPower's sample lyric; that's not your traditional gore lyric, that's closer to pornogrind lyrics....

where do we all draw the lines??

I'm not sure where the lines are drawn, but I guess I don't really care. One of the main reason I love listening to Exhumed, Aborted, and Impaled is the blatant Carcass worshipping that's going on with these bands. This is a good thing and I want more...

Also, someone mentioned Exhumed as goregrind. They are the reigning kings of "gore metal". Gore grind is more shit like Dead Infection, Squash Bowels, Lymphatic Phlegm, Last Days of Humanity, Cock and Ball Torture.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but any of you who have posted in this thread and say you enjoy the gorey side of metal should check out my webzine.

Impaled is excellent, Cant say I like the lyrics, but I can't even understand them so it's ok.
I don't like Exhumed, don't really know why, but i think they suck, and I didn't enjoy their show.
I don't like the Cover art and the lyrics on goregrind stuff though. It's sick.
 
When it comes to grind, I want to recommend Retch. The drumming is unearthly (no wonder, it is a drum-machine set to max speed or something :-) ).

There is a difference between brutal death and grind in complexity. Grind is much simpler, often it is just a lot of noice and blast-beats. I don't like it very much. Well I like the drums, but that's it. Some of the grind bands do not posess much skill.

Brutal death, however, is an extreme form of death metal played at high speed. The guitars are complicated and technical. I can recommend bands like Brodequin, Disgorge (Californian), Devourment, Deeds Of Flesh, Malignancy, Sect Of Execration, Cinerary, Prophecy or the originators of the genre themselves: Suffocation. Even Cryptopsy is considered brutal death but like every other band, they hare their own degree of originality. Brutal death is not some simple shit, if You listen to Cryptopsy for example you will understand it takes 10 times more skill to play than some crappy "progress" metal.

Also, there tends to be differences between grindcore and brutal detah musicians. Many grind musicians have rather retarded opinions about the society and they protest pretty much against everything there is. Brutal death guys are okay... of course there's bad apples everywhere, but those I've met and talked to are nice people and have normal (i. e. not retarded) opinions about life. I like brutal death because you don't find poseurs or girlies like in certain other kinds of metal (warpaints+satanism+racism in black metal, assholeness in power/speed/heavy metal, etc).
 
can someone define goregrind, i understand the combination of gore metal and grindcore, but whats it like is it like crazy stage antics like blood and shit and throwing up? whats the deal, sounds cool and funny as shit.

I'd say it's just grind with a gore theme (lyrics). Puking, reinsertion of aborted remnants, internal womb cannibalism, funny diseases (leukorrhea), etc. :-)
