so much from i can tell by the serial #, it's a 1990 RG570 - the thing is in pretty rough shape, but it's nothing that can't be fixed. biggest problems are with the neck - there's a pretty pronounced crack up around the headstock, and it's been sitting around for so long that there's some sort of mold/mildew all over the fingerboard. on top of that the pots are broken, knobs and back covers missing, and it's also strung left-handed

all in all though, with a new neck, an EMG 81 and some cleaning up, it should be ready to kick some serious ass

Sweet dude! Be sure to check the knife edges (the pivot points that press against the posts) on the bridge though

What's with the tape on the lower horn though?

Kickass grab, man, but you might want to consider switching out the trem.

i would, but honestly i won't have the $$ for it any time soon...i hadn't foreseen getting another guitar anytime soon, and i'm already looking at about $150 for a neck $100 for new pickup

i'll prob. just block the trem, and leave it at that...

for the strap? did you not read marcus, its strung lefty!:loco:

correct sir

there's also pretty decent-sized holes where the strap-loks got yanked out of the body

i may very well strip the body down, patch the holes with some filler, then re-paint the thing. that's something i would never bother with normally, but hey, it's free, so i may as well have fun with it!

Ah the classic Ibanez crack at the locking nut holes. I don't know how good you are with wood working, but it's best to break it clean off and fix it that way. I know some people drill a few holes and fill it with glue, but I would do it proper.

Edit- Hmmm well I'm with Marcus on this one, reading is for losers. I now see that you are just going to buy a new neck. Carry on!

yea, when he 1st showed me the crack i said "oh hey no prob, i can fix that"

then i saw what was growing on the entire length of the fretboard, and figured that it would be worth it to just snag a new neck altogether

That's nice man. I bought an RG a couple of years back but have no idea how old or what model. How can you get the info from the serial number if you dont mind me asking?

They're all over ebay, so it shouldn't be hard to find one!

if you google "ibanez serial number" there's a bunch of pages that show you how to determine the year that an instrument was built

then there was another page i found that has all the old ibanez catalogs posted online - after determining the thing was built in 90, i pulled up that year's catalog and saw the only RG from that year with an H-S-S pickup config. was the RG570

Cheers for that man, I googled the sn before and found nothing but never thought of checking the old catalogues, thanks for the tip :kickass:

edit: Just checked mine, also turns out to be a 570 but from 95. So that was an awesome guitar you got for free. Nice

At least it was for free:D

for real

and now that i'm looking into it, i might have to just have the neck crack repaired - i'm scouring ebay for RG necks, and finding lots, but most have the newer spacing for the bolts. every single one of the older necks i'm finding has the same crack in it, to varying degrees. some are only the slim stress crack, but will get larger over time, so there's no point in paying $100+ for something that will be in the same condition as what i have now pretty soon.

ffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

yea that's what i said!!

i already disassembled the whole thing, cleaned it, and put it back together...now i just need to find someone to glue the neck and it's ready to rock. turns out the mildew-looking stuff on the fretboard was just years and years worth of dust that was piled and caked on there...

Very cool! I had a later version of the 570 with a H-S-H configuration and an AANJ and loved it. There's definitely something to be said though for the older neck joint. Does that have the original Edge trem?
