I feel like my guitars are allways a little grainy. Don't know what's the reason.

I never realize it when I'm reamping guitars at the studio. I come back home and there is always something that bugs me.

Just reamped those guitars last weekend (5150 - krank OS 4x12 [v30]] - sm57 - api - ff800):

There's no bass in the mix and it's almost raw. Do you hear what I hear? That's something that's so unlikeable about my guitars that I start to hate my mixes.

I can hear exactly what you mean, and I think it sounds sick....
I know it's probably annoying if you can't get rid of it and you want to though.

haha.. first think i thought of... old school death metal guitars, dude :)

nothing you can do about that....
I have a similar "problem" with my "signature sound".....I have no idea what it is, no matter which mic, cab, amp, guitar....the sound always has the same trademarks.
I guess it's because of what we like to hear/what we're focussing on when dialing in a tone/micing an amp, I find it VERY difficult to get something completely different...maybe because it doesn't suit my taste and subconciously I try to tweak it more to MY liking...dunno.

something similar might be going on with your tone (which isn't bad ba any means, I think it sounds cool!)

Thanks Lasse, means a lot. That's interesting. I'm not paranoid about my own stuff. I really love the drums in that mix I posted. there is barely any triggering going on, even on the kickdrum.

on topic: if you guys say that tone is good as it is... fine! Band wanted a kinda trashy old school sound and maybe I nailed it and just don't like it personally :D

How much gain are you running on your 5150? It sounds like you could try dropping the gain down a tad. I own a 6505 and I never have the pre gain above 3 (or 3.5 if unboosted), that's the only problem I could think of. Aside from that everything is sounding pretty amazing on my end!

I kept waiting for Nergal to come in with vocals hehehe
Sounds cool man. Maybe the grainy sounds that I can't stand are a lot worse cuz I honestly think it sounds great and fits the style.
Also very impressive kick sound. Amazing it's not triggered/sample replaced. Very consistent and punchy. Did you use an Audix D6?

Gain was around 4, guitars are quadtracked!

I did use an audix d6 but there is a bit of sampling going on on the kick (about 30%) for some more consistency and click. all the punch comes from the original kick.

Non pro-opion... that sound totally fits the music. Sounds lovely. Reminds of something i use to listen to in the past, cant remember what tho.
I think everybody sorta has his signature, doesnt matter if i use pod, lepou, tse or real amps, i always end up with sorta same tone. Thing is, mine actually does suck.
