This is a popularity contest. It has nothing to do with musical integrity, ability as a musician or one's compositional skills. :

Metallica WAS a great band... they have not been great for a long long time.. and no they didn't deserve it... they deserved such a award for perhaps AJFA and definetly anything before that...

Metallica should of won, though I wouldn't consider them "rock" either...I just like 'em more
