How do you drummers like those special Graphite/Nylon style sticks?

Kinda like these......

If those are anything like Aheads, they wear cymbals down like hitting gongs with baseball bats.

No no, these are composite, not some sort of metal. They are actually quite good, little inbalanced when I first tried them out (2005 or something?) I think by now they probably have improved them quite a bit.

Hmm so the ahead sticks are tough on cymbals?
I was gonna talk to our drummer about maybe trying them out - dude literally has stickdust all over the place. I was moving the snare drum and got fuckign dust all in my face and shit. It was hilarious.

i'm definitely interested in suggesting alternate sticks for him. he doesn't really keep up with the music tech stuff so i've tell him about it. lozl.

I personally use these, they last about half a year in medium intensity use. Trust me when I say I can snap every stick I tried in two in short time except for these. Theyre a little more heavy (about 1,5 of a regular stick) but its also a great workout, every stick feels like a pencil now :heh:

oh really..... i just order an Alesis DM5 Pro Electric kit (white mylar heads)

You think these Aquarian Composite sticks are gonna scuff them all up with a bunch of black marks??

If so, I just go back to using Vater DSKs.

Interesting... I've been using Aheads for several years and I have zero damage to any cymbal. I hit hard and still only have to replace the sheaths about once a year. I kind of like the feel of wood sticks better and they sound better to me as well, but from a practice stand point, it's nice to not have to replace your wood sticks every few months.

A friend left a pair of Vaters on my kit. I'm really digging these sticks.

Hopefully that's because you have good technique.

i use these sticks 99% of the time,
(unless im chop building on a pad with heavy sticks)
they dont wear cymbals anywhere near as bad as wood sticks do.
they seem to last about a year, they are way more dent resistant than normal sticks, not much difference in sound,
WAY BETTER THAN AHEAD STICKS,
the ahead sticks damage everything as soon as you wear through the weak tapers, plus ive broken a pair of 7a`s and the lars ulrich ones, which are heavy and bulky.
i broke every china known to man before i found these sticks on a ballistic drumming dvd. paiste rude china, the aa metal x china, aax china
aa china, hhx chinese, hh dark china, wuhans, roland aa soundcaster custom china, i could go on and on.
if you keep breaking shit, try these
:kickass:

I use them on my v-drums. They are very beautiful, indestructible (at least for playing the drums) and have a cool balance. They´re a bit heavy, my friend who is used to light wooden sticks sometimes complain when he´s playing my drums.

these are good indeed, but...
one thing in particular i found to be problem is lack of flexibility. over prolonged use they gave me pain in my wrists.
this makes sense since they are much harder than wood and they do not absorb any vibrations coming form the cymbals. so they pass them on to your hands. unlike wooden sticks which are more flexible and absorb much of the vibrations. wood also gives me much better feeling over playing.

after many years of experimenting with different kinds of sticks including aheads, hickory is the way to go for me.

My ears tell me that these kind of sticks "eat" some sound from your hit. Listen close for example to Metallica, Lars used and still use I think Ahead. Not the same sound as hitting with wood sticks. Wood sticks are the shit. Drummers, drop all that shit and stick with wood sticks.
