Graspop 2003

ok so they shouldnt give up... but the scene is saturated with un-original bands and i am sick of being always in the same doom-death category..

That's true!
It's a little bit like the "new metal" scene, with thousands of bands that looks and sounds exacltly the same....
Listening to one or two albums is pretty good, but, you know, you'll always be back home - listening to the pioneers...
I know what I'm talking about, I sing in a "heavy gothic death" metal band by the way :s

I don't like LC either... And that Christina chick is deffo overrated, at least for my taste... I can't think of a really beautiful girl in metal to be honest... Anneke's sweet but not like super fuckin' hot... Oh, fuck it. It's about singing right, not tits and asses... That's what good old American porn is for! :D

To make it short: I like LC and I would love Christina if I was a guy *g*. Anneke may have a good voice but I can't stand her style of singing (joddeling?). Paradise Lost used to be good till the time of "Host"; the rest is a bad dream (tho Symbol have got a few nice sounds on it.. maybe there's still some hope *gg*). Katatonias singer is good but the music is not my style. I prefer Opeth and Mike's MAN-growling :D. MDB?? Too theatrical for me (tho their gig at the Graspop was good; their light guy is a genius! ;) *gg*)
And about Graspop: probably not gonna be there this year :(

Official site

Do so Pieter! :dopey:
And you never know what may happen 'till then ;)

And as for the bands you've mentioned before:
Imo Anneke is the best female vocalist in the entire metal (or not) scene, and she has proved it through the years. Respect, that's all i can say.. :worship:
Cristina is good, hot, and all that, but nothing like Anneke. I don't think LC are over-rated though, it's probably cos of the new album that we get to see their name pretty often. Besides it's a good band (though Andrea could definitely work on his vocals!!), and "Comalies" it's a really good album.
Paradise Lost? hehehe, what could i say about 'em, i saw 'em a few weeks ago here in Greece, and i still can't get over that!
And last, Jonas from Katatonia... :headbang:
i'm kinda surprised as well with what you said Danny hehe :hotjump:

saying that the singer of katatonia is good is deffo a joke. this guy obviously cant sing. anyone would sound good if with that much reverb and 4 layers of vocals. if i remember well the guy from opeth is good, and anneke is well skilled as well, but the guy from katatonia? hes a joke

I disagree. Saw Katatonia live once so they really couldn't have 4 layers of vocals. Sounded good still :headbang: I like the way he sings like he and his voice is about to break completely in a second. Works in theirs music.

well mehdi you do surprise me!!! i havent heard everything they have done, but from what i can tell the guy's got a style and i think the noise he makes with his vocal sounds godd. it might help that i happen to know his influences are jeff buckley and nick drake. i could be cruel here and say he's a better singer than you, but i wont...oops sorry i just did.
no offence mate you know i respect you.

im not at all into his voice, i think hes not skilled at all and ive never seen him live but most people i know who saw him said the vocals are weak [even people who are into the music]. and you can really tell from the cd that the vocals are hidden behind loads of effects and that.

however i hope hes a best singer than me, which isnt that hard really . the thing is that sometimes you have to put a bit your ego aside and tell yourself 'okay i cant sing, im giving it up', thats why im never gonna sing on any 'proper' release if i ever happen to release anything, thanks god :)

i reckon you could do it but it'll take some more practise and improving technique, pronunciation. belt it out and keep going like that. volume will help, it did for me. the first few songs at the gig sounded ace and alex sounded well good. especially when he's mid to high range. there was one track that must have been written by you that never seemed to suit his voice much, seemed a bit too low, not sure which one it was. stick at it though mehdi, you certanily ain't tone deaf!!!

thanks for that. maybe if i take the time and get the will to practise and that it might get decent enough but itll take ages, its hell of a work to sing properly. and alex is dead good and a better singer than ill ever be :D have fun alex

I kinda have to agree with that... Metal's not going anywhere I reckon... It's like pressing repeat all over again... I don't mind though. I think they're enough good bands anyways...

Can't agree with that at all!! Althought Jonas is a great singer (no matter what Mehdi says...)
Vinnie has 1 in a million voice, so here you can't compare him to Jonas at all, whether it's live or studio recording - his voice is just standart until Vinie's voice is exceptional.

Mehdi isn't that one of your prejudges again? (the Katatonia-singer thing) Please tell me what makes him so bad. All respect for Vinny but Katatonia's Jonas does it better than Vinny when it comes to live singing. IF Katatonia use vocal effects like you say than it must be because it suits the music, not because Jonas may not be a good singer. Check them out live when they come to France, just do an effort...

prejudice? nah, i got them last 3 cds here, listened to them, and the singers limits just irritate me. its like he tries to sing but cant, he always sounds out of breath or something. and using effects is maybe cool for the music but its a good way to hide your lack of skills. vinny aint really good on stage either, but thats another topic. maybe if they come to france and if the entrance fee isnt too high i might go, just to tease. ill shout 'jeff buckley!' all the way :p
