Graveland pwned in MetalCrypt Editorial, J. Cries

3 Inches of Blood makes makes me smile. I got to sing Deadly Sinners with them in a small bar venue once. They were opening for Exodus. It was a grand night.

the irony and cheese in metal is so freaking obvious ... lol at people that listen to it as gospel.

the irony and cheese in metal is so freaking obvious
By this logic, it is obvious in every kind of music, art...life in general. So we come to a "so what?" thing in the end.
And of course, let's not forget the standard of today's metalhead : clean vocals and pre 90s metal = cheese.
That editorial is dumb for so many reasons, and it seems that it was written by someone who learned metal by UM.

the 80's metalhead thought the 70's and 60's were cheese ... it's all the same.

then as we grow older we claim the elders as geniuses.

I don't think that any 80s metalhead thought that Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy the 70s Scorpions, etc etc were cheese. And even if what you say is true, we are talking about today's metalheads thinking that old metal is cheese, it's metal vs metal, this is very very different from the "80s metal vs hippie music" that you talk about.

Well I'm sure even the UM staff can agree that the average UM poster is still a fucking idiot.

"If you notice, generally the bands that are cheesy and immature are pretty confident that their music is good enough. In a sinister sort of way, they are saying "I can prance around in my undies with a sword in my hand, but that won't stop you from liking my music because it is that good." Cocky buggers! And that's pretty damn metal."

:kickass:

In other words, Darken can dress like a gay pirate as long as he keeps releasing great music.

metal is cheesy, true. But it isn't cheesier than any other kind of music. Pop music, hip hop, rap metal, are just as cheesy, metal only uses different themes.

He seems to be taking a fairly deserved stab at people who take their metal too seriously. I think it is fairly obvious even simply based on the replies to this thread the type of person he means. One poster here stands out like a sore thumb.
