Green Carnation

Hehe...
I think both of you are right, it's true that too few young people respect those old bands. But Dhatura's right about the fact that people like me, who are into Opeth, don't feel respected by older people for the music they listen to. It's a bit tiring :erk:
I feel no disrespect at all for any band who influenced the newer generations, but I'd like to have some respect for my taste as well.
I know what I listen to and I've never started listening to a band because I was supposed to, everything has been my own choice so far. And yeah I sometimes listen to the old guys like Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Genesis, stuff like that.

how on earth do I disrespect people who listen to new music? I just released a new album a few weeks ago like :erk:
my point is that these influential bands shouldnt be forgotten

but yeah you're right. i get mad when YOUNG people are teling Maiden is hilaric and shit, while theyre listening to hammerfall, cradle of filth, rhapsody and all that....

and i got into a killing mood when HUMO said Pink Floyd is way too overrated.

HUMO, flemish magazine. they think they know everything about good and bad music...

and it the most selling magazine as well here.... *sigh*

Hmm, with 'new music' I don't mean everything that's been released lately anyway, just certain bands that are being picked on without any good reason.

the bands arent being picked on, its just comedy when people blindly defend things that cant seriously be that close to their hearts.
aaahhh!

but then how many lizzy fans will respect where phil got his influences, like chuck berry and that?? respecting peoples influences could be disastarous, what if the kids went out and spent all their pocket money on old albums?? who'd buy all the generic third rate fourth generation derivative crap that the metal record companies need to sell so they can pay their mortgage??
:OMG:

And who publicized my theory that no decent metal band has come along since '97??

im gonna misquote the great henry rollins to the kids: "music these days has become so diluted to the point that im not interested anymore, and im not a snob. I just cant forget what i know"

and you cant blame ireland on chris de burgh, hes fcking argentinian or something :erk:

Ah I'm sure people had more respect 'generally' in them days. Back in the days of drugs and proper boozing like real rockers do.
I see the metal kids these days hangin about by central bank and theyre not even pissed. Middle class rebels, its all bollox :(

this is enough like

Have you read this sentence of mine, too, in the same post? "That's fair enough, I don't mean I disrespect all of these old bastards." (And even "old bastards" were not my words, anyway.)

But this is enough like, indeed. It's all a matter of taste. Respect won't make me buy old stuff.

A tricky argument, yeah, you and I did buy Antimatter's fourth (or I don't know how manyeth) generation "derivative crap" so that they can pay their mortgage or booze :D :p

And I didn't buy any Linkin Park or Opeth, for that matter. :D
