guess what I got....

I have to day my favorites are day 12: Trauma and day 20: um... i think it is confrontation or something like that. Mikael's growls add so much to these songs and the emotion in them. I do like Loser though because Devin is badass. In fact, devin kicks ass in all the songs he's in IMO

Day 12:Trauma is my favorite. The dirgey parts with Eric Clayton singing seguing into the fucking brutal growl of Mikael Akerfeldt is one of my favorite moments in music.

I don't remember the name but I HATE that one song where the lyrics are like "Cant you see..a tear!...maybe he's crying inside!" The weird effect they put on it sounds so corny.

And in my sig, you may have noticed... Interview with Arjen on monday! if anyone REALLY has to read it before then, i suppose you can drop me an email (zach@abrasiverock.com) probly saturday or sunday and i should have the majority of it transcribed and i can send you a teaser.

Anyway, there are some corney parts on it. I think the one you are referring to is in the song where the wife and best friend are talking about him... day thirteen: Sign. I thought that was cheesy at first, but i love that part now. The first part of it is weird, but then they come in with the awesome trade-off part which just sounds incredible.

Confrontation is an excellent finale to the album, though I think the last thing you should hear is James' escalating scream of "I'm alive!" instead of the Dream Sequencer flashback. As for corny moments, I think there's a few, but not enough to bring it down significantly...I find it to be way over the top, but Loser always brings a wide grin to my face

on first listen i hated this listen... but after a couple more listens i began to love it... is truly is an inspired work... and arjen's greatest achievement... the woman who plays Wife has an incredible voice...

thanks, its such an unbelievable cd. better than i expected. the DVD's great too... "Paul who? ... McCartney? ... from the Beatles? ... you want to sing on the next Ayreon cd? ... no, no thanks" ::click::

I had the whole thing 3 weeks before release date. What's your point? :p

I just got my Limited Edition Friday. That thing is really cool! I bought the Special Edition at Best Buy the day of release, but had not opened it just in case I found the LE, which i did. So now I still have to return the SE.

Is the DVD worth it? I was almost gonna get the DVD version... but I decided against it because Ayreon albums are always hit or miss with me... and I was afraid I wouldn't like this one. .. but I think the album is brilliant.

Does anybody have any info on The Quill? Magnus puts in a great vocal performance, yet I know nothing of his band.

maybe check out a website or something like that and try to find an mp3 or two. everyone i talked to said it sounded like audioslave or soundgarden, so i'm not the only one. That's the reason why it really freaked me out that he didn't suck

are the first like 12 tracks on the second cd sposed to be 4 seconds long or is my computer being gay?
They wanted Day 12 to be track 12, so the first 11 tracks go by quickly. It's an intro of sorts.

I was also really suprised by the release. Sure I didn't like some of the tracks but they helped tell the story. Buddy Lackey (which is Devon Graves real name) played the perfect role as Agony. He sounded so incredible, I wish he would have given the Murder of Crows the same effort. I only wish Devin Townsend would have swallowed his pride and went over to Arjen to work on it. I do like his parts but as the DVD said Devin wouldn't do anyone elses lyrics or music so he worked on the thing by himself and sent it to him. Of all the material Arjen recieved he could only use Devin on 3 songs (I think). His whole performance left me wanting more.

And I was extremely suprised by Labrie's performance. This leads me to believe he may not be losing his voice as I previously thought.

I've only heard this thing three times, and I'm already owned. Labrie sounds incredible, I love it. But I love any song that Mikael is on, he is so badass. I don't have a favorite yet, since I'm still getting into it, but for my first time hearing Ayreon ever, it kicks my ass.

I agree, Devon sounds great, especially on Pain and Betrayal...speaking of, Dead Soul Tribe have a new album coming out in August according to Inside Out, though the DST homepage doesn't list any details yet...and James does sound better than he has on the last two DT albums, he seems to be doing his best work for others lately (see also Frameshift.)
