Looking to finally start adding some effects to my rig......So what are some recommendations for a really good multiFX device (with good control via footswitch if racked)? Or do you think it is better to just get each effect in it's own pedal?

I was looking at the G Major, but the footswitch looks pretty crappy

Unless you plan on using a lot of effects I'd recommend using stompboxes. Me effect chain is like this: Guitar --> Isp Decimator--> Ts 808--> Boss delay--> wah---> Amp. I'm thinking of changing my wah to another place in the chain, but I'm fairly happy with it as it is.
If you want a lot of fx, the G-major is pretty nice, but I havent tried it extensively.

I've gone full circle with effects. I started on pedals, cheap ones, and slowly got into multi effects. I have had Alesis Quadraverbs, Yamaha SPX 90, Roland GP-8 and 16, G Major, you name it. I still own the Alesis and a Korg A2, and also a G Major. Now I am back to pedals. It all boils down to what you intend to do with your effects. I mean if you need to tap dance on 3 different pedals to get where ya need to be then multi effects or a switcher unit are in need. I like the G Major and the Korg A2 because you can turn effects on and off within your program, meaning you can keep the chorus on and turn the delay on and off if you please. The G-Major is cool because you can set it up to have your time effects spill over with a program change. Thus if you want a delay for soloing and turn it if after the solo, the delays and reverbs carry on until they are done. Pretty cool stuff! The effects are pretty solid in the G-Major but after comparing them to the real thing I chose to become a pedal guy again. I love my script issue MXR Phase 90, my tube screamer, my old blue MXR 10 band eq, to name a few but now the tap dance started again so I opted for the voodoo labs ground control and the audio switcher. It changes any midi effects units I have and pedals also, with one stomp of the foot. I had to save for a while to do this one as it's not cheap. Lots of options out there, assess what your needs are and go from there. My opinion now is that I prefer the pedals to the multi effects, but I have used some pretty good multi effects units also. Look for multi effects units that set your patch up like a chain of pedals with the option of switching the effects on and off individually. I enjoyed those units the most. One last thought about multi effects units is that switching from patch to patch their is sometimes a hick up, meaning the change happens but it's a bit delayed. I used the Behringer FC1010 for my G-Major and it worked ok for me. It took a bit of futzing to get it to turn the effects on and off individually, but it did after I figured it out. Sorry to ramble on, probably confused you more than helped. lol.

All I have is a Tuner pedal and Tube Screamer before the amp, and then a delay pedal for (solos and clean) always on in the amp's loop (I turn it on and off by toggling the FX loop on and off, as Rectifiers and Peaveys let you do)
