How do you tell what Key something is in when the riffs are going flat out?

Like its easy to tell the main back in black riff is in E... but for riffs that are going flat out with a bunch of changes, how do you tell? Is there rules for it or anything?

well you first have to know the keys, and then by process of elimination you would find that it would have to be one that contains all the notes being played. Now modes are a completely different story, which would defininatly be very hard to know if they are constantly changing modes.

so for numberof sharpes it goes from 0 to 7
C G D A E B F# C#
in the order FCGDAEB

You mean Theory wise or Harmony wise? In theory it shouldn't be hard at all, but in harmony your ear has to be trained like a master to detect tiny little changes.
