and i'm really really ----> :erk::erk::OMG::guh:

is there a way to overcome this? :/

BULLSHIT on the amp deal ... best amps in the world look battered as fuck!

Same with my Marshall Cab ... 1971 Battle Scars and all!

Guitars need some battle scars.

While I agree with the sentiment, five minutes after unboxing my Telecaster I proceeded to drop the pair of scissors I had used to open the box straight down across the surface causing a 1 inch scratch in it's beautiful vintage blonde finish - add to that the fact that it is a pine body (very soft wood) and the scratch went deep... Needless to say I shouted obscenities for a few minutes and then tried buffing it out a bit. While it does not look as bad as it did, I finally applied a little clear coat over it so it would not spread and all has been well since.

you made me feel better now.....

The first cut is always the deepest, so they say... My PRS is still relatively unscathed, I do try and take extra care of that but my other guitars are scratched up and chipped. I try not to even wear a top with buttons or a zipper when playing the PRS so I don't scratch up the back, but yeah, once that fateful ding is received and it's value massively drops then I will definitely care less.

I havent been able to royally fuck up my strat something awful yet.

Which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it.

This reminds me of the time when my drummer was twirling his keys while I was polishing my week-old PRS Custom 22 10-top after a rehearsal. They flew off his finger and left a nice gouge right above the bridge. Needless to say, I feel your pain.

...... a reason i will never buy a PRS.....
.i would DIE if i got a scratch on a PRS.....

Scratching and denting guitars is part of why I play used guitars. If I buy a guitar that already has 10 scratches in it and then over the course of time put a bunch more scratches on it the value of the guitar does not change much.

When you buy a new guitar it instantly decreases in the price it will bring due to nolonger being new.

As for the orginal poster, don't worry about it man the guitars cash value only went down if you sell it. Just keep playing your baby.

I chipped my Gibson Les Paul the day it arrived, a few weeks later my dog knocked the case lid down on my guitar when it was sitting half in/half out of the case and it dented the front. I was a little annoyed about the scratch, but it's all part of it's charm. The finish is dulling where my arm goes across it and the back of it is pretty fucked up.

Don't worry man, no doubt your drummer or bass player will knock it over at some point anyway, at least you got the first scratch on it!

Unless it's an old Strat, you're gonna struggle Owen. Fender finishes are pretty much hard plastic. You're gonna have to fuck that shit up real good to get any sort of damage out of it.

I have a '76 ES-335TD... it was mint when I got it... now it looks like it's been played. I prefer the latter... guitars shouldn't be pretty unless they're collector items. I inherited that guitar from my dad... and I'm doing justice to his memory by playing the shit out of it.

I once had my old Vetta pedal board (a huge, heavy mother) resting up one side of my bed, I forgot it was there and had my Ibanez and sat down hard on the bed as you do... The bed springs compressed and I smashed the edge of the guitar really hard on the top of it. It now has a huge chunk in it with the wood showing underneath.

I actually prefer it and I wasn't even bothered when it happened. My Les Paul has a golf ball dent in it courtesy of my little bro. That one was a little more annoying since it should only be the owner doing the damage whilst using the instrument :P

Nah its a 11 year old mexican.

And well, I'm a serial guitar abuser, slightly disappointed that for once this will not cause a problem. :loco:
