Funny I would have said the exact opposite, 31 even made the drums sound good to me :) The interaction of the bass with the kick is by far the best of all. Guitar tone is not the best indeed (as ahjteam said it kind of lacks the "wow" factor at first) but overall it's the one where all the elements fit the best to me. Most others are also a bit too metal sounding and grainy considering the style of music I believe although all of them have great qualities.

21 audiosprite (used ampsims) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/21.mp3

Bass guitar (audiosprite_picture004)
- Amp was simply TSE Bod (Onqel) with the bass knob cranked. I experimented with Pod Farm 2's 1989 Eighties amp but chose BOD for its presence.
- Next was the ModernExciter (Antress) with the Low knob at 9:00 to breathe life into the amp sim.
- Electri-Q (AIXcoustic Creations) for a HPF at 38Hz, and a high shelving filter at 2.2kHz taking off 4.4dB to reduce finger noise.
- Lightweight Compressor (Christian W. Budde) with a moderate ratio to soften the attack.

Rhythm guitar (audiosprite_picture003)
- Electri-Q with a 2dB high shelf at 1.4kHz in place of a booster sim. TSS give the rhythm guitars a twangy attack.
- AcmeBarGig's Gimme Head amp sim with the knobs barely varying from 12:00. After experimenting with many other amp sims including heavier ones like TSE X50 and LeCto) I went with Gimme Head to accentuate the pop-punk feel of the tune. I felt that an 'imperfect,' raw, grainy tone would make the song the most fun to listen to.
- LeCab (LePou) with six blended IRs: lolzgreg's ASEM Recto V30 L2, catharsis-awesometime-fredman's s-preshigh, GuitarHacks' EDGE -1 I Inch ala Sneap and JJ BBAE-1, RedWire's Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM57-Cap-2in, God's Cab's NT5_left_dead_room_pres_4.
- FerricTDS with the dynamic and saturation knobs maxed, because it sounded good.
- ModernExciter with the Low knob set at 12:30, to try to emulate cab speaker movement.
- C4 Multiband Compressor (Waves) set at Erik Monsonis' settings in the God's Cab thread.
- Electri-Q with a HPF at 86Hz, a LPF at 9.6kHz, cut at 3kHz to avoid masking the leads, and attenuation from 4-7kHz to dull some of the amp hiss (it's a bright amp).

Lead guitar (audiosprite_picture002)
- TS's Secret (BTE) as a booster, Sneap settings.
- Gimme Head amp sim again so the tone would resonante best with the rhythm guitars.
- keFIR loaded with lolzgreg's ASEM Recto V30 L2 impulse response
- Electri-Q with a HPF starting just above 100Hz, boost around 3kHz, and a sharp LPF at 13kHz.
- Twin Delay (Rhythm Lab) to give the tune a slight post-rock feel.

25 wolfeman (used real amps) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/25.mp3

All guitars were reamped through a Wolfe Amplification Stinger Head and a Wolfe Amplification 2x12. Two mics were used, an Audix i5 on a V30 and a MD421 on a T75. Mics were blended to taste in the DAW. Tried to use minimal plugins for the guitars. Rhythm tracks had Antress ModernConsoleEQ, and LOSER stereoEnhancer. Leads were Antress ModernCompressor and ReaDelay.

Bass was straight up TSE B.O.D

Nothing fancy. For the life of me I couldn't get rid of some shrill sound that would pop up in the DI's. Maybe I'm the only one that hears it, but after trying multiple amps, cabs, EQ's. etc I couldn't isolate it without destroying the guitar tone even worse. I'm interested to see if other submissions have the same noise.

All files excluding the drums track have been pre-processed with Nebula Renderer and
analoginthebox's tube console bundle.

Bass: just onQel's B.O.D blended with the original DI-track and a little bit of EQ + Satson Channel

Guitars:
Rhythm guitars were reamped through an Orange Tiny Terror (unboosted), the cab was a Mesa
Boogie Thiele box with a Vintage 30 speaker. One Sm57 between cap and edge position about 1“
from the grill, into Summit Audio 2ba-221.
In Cubase I added Satson Buss, some EQ boosts + Pultec EQ for the Hi- and Lo-Pass

On the lead guitars I used the UAD 1176 just to smooth the Di-track a little bit and an amp-sim
called Kuassa Amplification Creme with it's cab-sim enabled.
Pultec Eq once again for the Hi- and Lo-Pass and a touch of a small Hall from Lexicon's Pantheon
plug-in.

42 internity (used ampsims) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/42.mp3

bass -
I took 3 track of the bass :
first one was the TSE BOD 1.0 which is awesome plugin for tone shaping ... then I compressed this track with stage comprassion
the second track was AmpegSVX for more tone shaping of the bass
last one was Podfarm 2 for color and then EQ

all of this sended to a buss -
it has impulse loader with bass impulse , eq and limiters and then ozone 4 for some staturation

Rhytms guitars -
one of the rhytms was podfarm2 with the cab to a impulse loader of catharsis impulse.
the second one was poulin lecto to same impulse

then they sended to a buss that has EQs , staturations , and tiny bit of verb

lead guitars -
one was podfarm2 and the second one was 8505 to same impulse of the rhytms guitar.
sended to a buss with EQs , staturation , verb and delay

note : the guitars were boosted with Tubescreamer or with an ampsim in clean channel.
second note : in beginning the rhytms guitars are panned center

43 menthal (used real amps, advanced to the finals) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/43.mp3

Recording process:

The guitars were record with the use of a Traynor YBA-1 amp boosted with a DIY TS808(with Volume on 75%, Drive at 0% and Tone on 60%). The amp has been rebuilt by me so it's fairly unique. :)

The speaker cabinet was a Harely Benton Vintage, loaded with V30's.

Mic used was a single SM57 going into a Studio Projects - VTB1 end then straight into the soundcard.

Re-amping box used was a Palmer Daccapo.

Mixing process:

The rhythm guitars were only gated, the lead guitars were also gated and I removed some high end treble around 5.5kHz and up. The lead guitars also got a tad reverb on them. When the second lead guitar comes in the both lead tracks are panned R45 and L45.

The bass is going through PodFarm2, one track is semi clean and the other track got more overdrive and is also HP-filtered at 250Hz. I used the Bass Overdrive in PodFarm2 on the overdrive track.
These bass tracks goes to a group channel and are HP-filtered at 40Hz.
Also, I've added som bass with eq at 150Hz.

55 zer0_c00l (used real amps) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/55.mp3

All guitars were re-amped thru an ENGL PowerBall, used an ENGL Angled 4x12" Cab with V30s, with an AKG Perception 200 on the center, a SM57 on the edge, and another SM57 on a edge45 position, then HP and LP.
In the lead guitars I also used a Boss BD-2 as a booster before the amp.

Bass simply used 2 tracks, one with TSE BOD, other with BBE Sonic Maximizer plugin.

Sorry, but got no pics of the re-amping part.

62 Jorge Escudero (used ampsims, advanced to the finals) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338211/GTC4mp3/62.mp3

BASS GUITAR

I´ve doubled the bass track so i can get the lows from the DI track and the distorted mids from the distorted copy of the DI track so it cuts throught the mix. Both tracks go to a folder track where they have their final processiong applied

Bass tracks have the following plugins in them:

DI track

-Antares tube. -For a little bit of saturation
-UAD cambridge EQ. -To get the lows and take out some mids and highs.
-Rcomp. -Hard compresion to have the low end under control through the whole track.

Dist Track

-Revalver.
-UAD Cambridge EQ. -To roll off the lows and highs and get a mid distorted sound.
-Rcomp. -Slight compresion. Just to even some peaks.

Folder Track

-Rbass. -To get powerful lows that cut through all size speakers.
-UAD Cambridge EQ. -To shape the final bass sound.
-Rcomp. -Again slight for having volume changes even.
-Izotope trash. -For tape simulation.

RHYTHM GUITARS

Rhythm guitars are procesed with revalver having diferent settings in L and R chanels, then are send to folder track where the combined signals of L and R are procesed thorugh the following plugins:

UAD Cambridge EQ
UAD Fatso Sr. -Providing some slight compresion, saturation and analog warmth simulation.
Izotope Trash. -Set to simulate analog tape.
S1 Imager. -To widen the Rhy Guitar signal a little bit.

LEAD GUITARS
Lead guitars are procesed with guitar rig 4. Settings in Guitar Rig for the different lead tracks are basically the same. Then They´re send to folder track where Izotope Trash tape simulation is applied to the tracks.

The Audio signal in lead tracks go as follows:

Guitar Rig 4.
Anatares tube. -For a little extra saturation
UAD Cambridge EQ.
Rcomp.

EFFECTS

Both lead and rhythm guitars share a little of plate reverb specially set for guitar tracks. lead guitars have a little bit of stereo delay on them timed to the tempo of the track and automated to dissapear when necesary.

I used Lecto and Recabinet impulses (6L6 57 edge grill - Damien 2x12) for guitars. There's a slight compression and EQ, screenshots are attached.

Bass is processed with Logic's bass amp plugin, slammed with Logic's compressor and a touch of EQ. Screenshots are attached as well.

For exact settings check the pictures.

Guitars
Peavey Valveking into a Mesa Rectifier cab. Mic'd with a I5 and a transformerless SM57. Lead 1 was just the I5 and lead 2 was mic'd with a SM7B. The dual mic's on the rhythm tracks were aligned using Soundradix Auto Align.
All guitars went through Digirack eq and CLA 2A compressor. Leads were sent to a moogerfooger delay.

Bass
Bass went through Sansamp PSA-1 and SSL Channel. This was then sent to a DBX 163X compressor and recorded to a new track. This was then processed with further eq and limiting to control the peaks.

All guitar/bass tracks and the delay were sent through Slate VCC on the trident console with the drive all the way up.

For all guitars:

Edirol UA-101 -> Radial Pro RMP -> Mesa Mark V (Channel 2 Crunch mode) -> Mesa Recto 2x12 -> M-Audio Solaris (I know, I know but I don't have any other mic at the moment)

Rhythm was hard pan with a bit of EQ (Logic channel EQ and SonEQ) and compression (Stillwell Rocket)

Same processing for the lead guitars but with different panning.

For the bass:

I have used Decapitator to distorted it and then I have EQ'd and compressed it.

I finally compressed a bit the bass and guitars mix with The Glue.

Haha, thanks everyone!
Thanks to Anssi for hosting and Eric and Lasse for sponsoring!

Like we say over here: "I'm grinning like a freshly painted horse" :D

Didn't really think I could win this when I submitted this on the last day...was a bit pissed because I couldnt get it to be reamped through my rig, so I anyway tried it with sims. Glad so many digged it!
Congrats to all the other ones who made it to the finals! At the last comp I didn't even make it to those

Really looking forward to the Stinger, gonna make sure to make clips with it ;)

Congrats Mago.
Well at least I made it to the second round this time.
Congrats Mago.

I didn't get to second round because of him, or because I wasn't lucky enough to be in a group with 4. Anyway no biggie :) Congrats to all who participated.

Well, Marco got like 65% of the votes in the #2 category, so he pretty much dominated there.

But just like Brett in the finals, there was a lot of self puffing in the first round too :)

I saw what you did there Mr. 24
Same with you, Mr. 84
And let's not forget Mr. 14
