I put a set of .11 gague strings on my guitar and tuned it BEADF#b to play some Bloodbath songs but it will not hold tune for long, especially the low B string. I don't know much about truss rods or intonation but something tells me that's my problem. Anyone have any advice?

If I get this sorted out I'll post some mp3s of my covers if anyone cares.

Thanks!

i used to get that problem when i first started out like 8 years ago.

heres the best way (its a bitch/huge pain in the ass) buy yourself a 7th string or a 7 string set, and move all your strings down, that way it would be like using a 7 string, only without the high E, in which case you would have a baritone guitar.

or you could just buy a 7 string like me.

I had a baritone and a 7 string at one point. The baritone I had was really uncomfortable to play and a 7 is kind of pointless since I rarely use the high e, not to mention I'm so broke right now.

I really just want my standard scale 6 string to be able to hold low tunings.

You should tune down a whole step to D instead and be a real man. At the most drop c.

no.. being a real man is using regular E tuning, and being heavy as fuck without relying on lower tunings to compensate heaviness.plus if you can accomplish that, then you know you know your instrument. heres a tip, go learn some megadeth/symphony x for tips and tricks.

Agreed. I use standard tuning. D or drop C is the lowest I would even consider.

What about writing heavy as fuck riffs in E tuning, then making them more heavy by tuning them down? Seriously, its pretty limiting to think you should only write in standard tuning and just think anything else is compensating for any lack. It allows you to play in darker keys, which can sound better for styles of music such as death metal. Silly really.

My suggestion would be, if you want to tune down that far, to get yourself some of those Zakk Wylde Signature stings:

The lowest string is .60 (!). That's heavy as fuck in my opinion, and you should get some good tension on the lower strings, makin it easier to play and should be staying in tune. If that doesn't help, take your guitar to a guitar shop and let some professional do the set up. Might cost a few bucks, but you wont fuck up your guitars neck by adjusting the trussrod yourself or some other shit like that.

yeah but sometimes things that sound fucking awesome at a regular guitar tone that is E, sound like shit when you move them down to a lower tuning, and vice versa. i mean try playing some of bloodbaths shit on E, it sounds fucking stupid.

You really should have a baritone 6 string for that low of tuning. Get out of here with those zakk wylde strings. Zakk plays in drop c you're gonna need a lower set to stay in tune on a 24-3/4" for B even with the low end of that set.

I really don't like baritones. I found the ones I've played hard to get used to and extremely uncomfortable, which are both important for the death style. I remember reading Anders talking about Tumn's signed baritone and how awkward it was using it on Resurrection Through Carnage. Sounds superb though. I wonder how Anders sets up his ES custom....

0.11 is way to thin to tune down to B, when I tuned down to C I used .12 and I probably could have gone even thicker.

that ibanez s series would be nice, except i cant deal with a guitar that doesnt have 24 frets

although....that pink one does look pretty metal.
