hair metal bands with talent

Alot of 80's metal bands were very talented. Whether or not you like the music is a different story.

They were good writers and players though with few exeptions.

the music overall was corporate crap..but..

Winger's guitar player Reb Beach is actaully a VERY good guitar player. Their drummer, Rod Morganstein(sp?) is a killer drummer..heck..he was in the Dixie Dregs!

They just both happened to be in the most vilified band of the 1980s!

Van Halen

Lots of good bands mentioned but here are some of my favs from that time...

Scorpions (all the way through Savage Amusement)

Extreme (the first one was the only one that really hooked me)

Danger Danger (about half each of their first two albums)

Dokken (all the way through Back For The Attack)

Motley Crue (first three)

Twisted Sister (Stay Hungry, Love Is For Suckers, Under The Blade)

Skid Row (first two)

Jackyl (debut)

WASP (I like all of their stuff)

Loudness (Thunder In The East, Hurricane Eyes)

Whitesnake (s/t, Slip Of The Tongue, Slide It In)

Ratt (everything up through Reach For The Sky)

Hurricane (Over The Edge)

Tesla (Mechanical Resonance and The Great Radio Controversy)

Cinderella (Night Songs)

There's more but I'm blank at the moment. The bands I couldn't get into were: Steelheart, Poison, Kix, Warrant, White Lion, Slaughter, Keel, Bon Jovi (except one or two songs), solo DLR, and Great White.

I think Steve Vai and Jason Becker played for Whitesnake... interesting, I will check out Tesla.

IMO WASP was not hair metal, they had the clothes and the attitude, but the music was heavy metal, especially The Headless Children which is a masterpiece
