By purchasing them with an exorbitant amount of money!

Do the males get anything in return?

Usually not.

...and the persons with no significant others regardless of gender, what do they do?

They get DRUNK.

varies from province to province, but I think the average is 19. It's 18 here.

So not a national age. I suspect if they dropped the age here below 21, the rate of deaths for Freshman in college would either go dramatically up (due to the ease of availability) or down due to the diminished interest in something actually legal.
