Heavy "commercial" Metal ??

They still sometimes play Alice's Poison on radio 'round here, I remember when that came out people who gave me shit for listening to metal baught it. And Trash is a pretty heavy album, crappy but heavy.

:erk: what you mean? I love that album!

"I wanna love you but I better not touch.. don't touch!" :D

also the album "Hey Stoopid" was pretty commercial (like it too!)

Well Droogie Death Angel's Act III was a little bit commercial esp. that ballad
"Room With A View." And Testament's The Ritual was a bit commercial in their sound
too even though I liked that album esp. the songs "Electric Crown" and "Return To Serenity" and Im not even going to mention anything from that certain band that
made the Black album and beyond. Just trying to give examples of thrash bands
trying to go mainstream. And Ted I think DLR was from Lafayette In along with
Izzy and Axl from GNR and someone told me Mick Mars was from IN as well.

I like both! Alice is da man:headbang:

That's pretty damn good commercial metal IMO.

Talking about Metal here, not slipknot :yuk: ...I ment bannds that have a clearly commercial influence (mostly Glam-metal-ish if you look at the 80's), but still sound very heavy...

we'll agree to disagree again ... Slipknot is a metal band in my opinion, but you are talking about the Creed, Slaughter, Kingdom Come, Poison type bands, right?

gotcha.........

The old discussion...again. Slaughter, Kingdom Come, Poison are metal bands (even if I don't like them). Creed, Slipknot are not (and I don't like them either :D ).

I beg to differ about the glam bands lol.. but then again that is expected of me.. to me Heavy "commercial" Metal are a little more then the glam bands.. they have a tinge of "metal" in them.. to me Poison and the others never had any tinge of "metal" in them... they were just hard rock or party rock (i like this term better)... but something like Def Leppard on Pyromania, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister etc.. were Heavy "Commercial" Metal... in other words bands that pretty much sang Metal anthems... to me Alice Cooper probably started the whole thing.. so to me Quiet Riot's Metal Health or Def Leppard's Foolin or Twisted Sister's Were not going to Take it are Heavy "commercial" Metal and not Poison's Fallen Angel, White Lion's Wait, Warrant's Cherry Pie etc... but that's just my opinion... :: puts on helmet and jock strap on and assumes defensive position lol ::: :loco:

Party rock?

We used to party with Metallica and Anthrax years ago, I guess times change

I guess a good division between commercial and non-commercial will be the amount of media exposure.

Like I said before, genres are labels, and labels are wrong. :yuk: If it gets you rockin, it's good music, if not, it might be good music to someone else. It's all good. I understand that it's just a discussion, not trying to start anything :loco:

Your cruel device
Your blood like ice
One look could kill
My pain, your thrill
I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin'thru my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains
Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace on sweat
I hear you calling and it's needles and pins (And pins)
I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don't want to touch you but you're under my skin (Deep in)
I want to kiss you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin'thru my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains
Poison
One look could kill

I don't want to break these chains Poison, oh no
Runnin'deep inside my veins, Burnin'deep inside my veins
It's poison I don't want to break these chains

When i saw the name of the thread, i immediately thought of Lizzy Borden, pre-Come Out And Play Twisted Sister , W.A.S.P., pre-Theater of Pain Motley Crue, some Dokken, some of 80's Priest and TT Quick. Meaning bands who are heavy and have an appeal to the non-glam audience, but at the same time have enough hooks and accessibility to appeal to the glam audience, as well. They can fit in well with the King Diamonds and Iron Maidens of the world, as well as the Ratts and Wingers of the world, as well.

Reading it doesnt count asshole! :loco:

That ass could be commercially successful although far from glam.

Turbo and Trash were the first two albums that came to mind (I like both) but they were already mentioned. Also mentioned was Lizzy Borden and I think the Visual Lies album was about as close to commercial as Lizzy got (and I like that one too!).

Yep , Lizzy is one I forgot. saw them in the 80's in a small club in Belgium and they REALLY kicked ass !!!
