Ones which I don't think I've seen mentioned yet:

Bill Steer (helped to define grindcore AND melodic death metal)
Lee Dorrian (one of the great legends of grindcore AND doom)
Mick Harris (for helping to make the blastbeat what it is today, and thus pushing the boundaries of extreme metal)
Dan Lilker (Anthrax, Brutal Truth, SOD, Nuclear Assault, Venomous Concept etc)
Kevin Sharp (for being so badass)
Jesse Pintado (World Downfall, Harmony Corruption, Utopia Banished, Fear, Emptiness, Despair etc, nuff said)
Geezer Butler
Scott Burns (for producing so many defining albums)
Phil Anselmo
Rex Brown
Johnny Morrow
Pepper Keenan

Could go on for days...

Props to Pogie for AlexWebster. Man is a fucking legend.

Also, Steve DiGiorgio

Oh shit, I can't believe I forgot DiGiorgio!

I don't want to offend anyone, so I won't name any names, but in my opinion there's lots of bass players who get so much more praise than they deserve.

Steve DiGiorgio is not one of them. He blows 99.99% of metal bass players out of the water.

Tom G Warrior
Tommy Veterelli
Ron Broder
Marky Edelman
Mille Petroza
Jurgen "Ventor" Reil
Tom "Angelripper" Such
Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer
Mike Sifringer
Chuck Billy
Denis "Piggy" D'Amour

Don't you dare slag off Steve Harris...
